No phantom power on microphone minijack
jedd 14.01.2019
I ordered both the MicroMix 1 and MicroMix 2 as replacements for the legendary Behringer Xenyx 302 USB which I used to love mostly for its size and routing options, but has been discontinued.

This is obviously targeted at the same audience and I suspect there was a certain amount of plagiarism when it comes to design and possibly routing schematics. But yeah, that's cool with me.

One major selling point for the 302USB was the fact you could plug a average consumer-grade headset (like your standard gaming gear) into it and use the 3,5mm microphone in.

This is however not possible on either the MicroMix 1 or 2 as the circuit board does not feed phantom power to this port (well, on the MicroMix 1 it does but only for a few seconds after pressing "phantom"). This makes the 3,5mm mic jack only usable with active or pre-amplified microphones, and it kind of defeats the point of having this unit to be honest. I thought this was a fault on my units but Thomann customer service confirmed this was working as intended.

I should add that the preamps are very noisy, but that was to be expected considering the price. Maybe a FetHead can help you regarding this point, but if you're looking for a quality signal you're probably better off looking at other more expensive (but still small) interfaces.

Unit build is metal, solid, knobs are well tightened. The kind of gear you can just stash in the bag with no protection and expect to work for a couple of years.

Great flexibility & value for money!
THSIM 20.10.2020
I have used this USB mixer to input sound from external sources into on-line meetings (Zoom / Skype / WebEx) - works as expected and with great results.
I have added it to my Mac and switched to the mixer as sound input, and it sends everything in to my on-line calls perfectly :-)
Remember to add a microphone to the set-up, so that you can mix your voice with whatever else you play (instruments or music from a phone or tablet), since you can't use both the built-in mic in the PC and the Mixer as sound inputs at the same time (at least I haven't figured out how).
Some buttons (like the EQ) are a bit small and "flimsy" but work well anyway - it's great just to have EQ at this price range...
I really like that you can use both mini jack (for headset / mic) as well as regular jack (for my Epiphone guitar) and XLR (for my Shure SM58 microphone)!
Very flexible solution - great fun!!

PR
very surprised.
Peter R. 438 27.11.2020
This little mixer has superb pre amps and the guitar switch, an amaing addition and completely capable of flattering even high output pickups.
The tiny sliders work perfect (for me),.
The USB power supply works so well with my Box MBA1 usb output socket, making me completely mobile, battery powered for 4 hours (plenty for my repertoire).
I wont use this for recording as I only do "bar gigs" & Street busking, a recent aquired USB battery powered cellphone charger drives this for extending input channels in my duo street band.
This little mixer certainly holds its ground against the bigger names. Again, I have to mention chanel 2 with that super electric guitar button, works a treat, as an electric guitar preamp costs big bucks.
All told, I am truly surprised at the "ability" of this little mixer for little money.
Thomann make some quality equip for sensible money. This little mixer excells by its presence & ability.
My mackie 402 vlz4 mixer is gonna have a rest while I keep using this micromix 1 usb its size is superb, attaches directly to my mic stand.
Its ability is beyond my expectations, the usb power supply & cinch outputs fit right in with my sound system. Great move Thomann. Thanks.

Does what it promises to do
kilovanni 23.07.2024
I got this mixer to sit on my desk and to mix the output of a couple of my devices. It does just that. The chasing is made of metal, which given the price of this thing, was a positive surprise!

The physical controls feel tight and right: not too loose, not too stiff. It is nice it provides an instrument input and a mic input with phantom power. The EQ and panning, while simple, do their jobs. This mixer doubles also as a USB audio interface. I am mainly on Linux, and I was surprised that my system recognized this thing right away and required no setup at all. Literally plug and play. However, there is quite high levels of noise with any higher gain levels, so be aware of that. Apart from the USB output, you got your L and R outputs as well. Easy to connect.

What else can I say? You get an excellent return of your investment with this device. If you play guitar and sing, this is a must have for your on-the-go setup. For me, this is a mimimalistic device that I use in my just as minimalistic home studio as a pure mixer.

Overall, I am very happy with my purchase and I can recommend this mixer to others, who are not looking for that audiophile-level of sound quality, but for something passable for home recordings.

J
USB powered mixer in a metal casing.
JakeC 29.06.2021
I am strengthening my street performance gears(or just buying more toys), and i wanted a USB powered mixer. I actually wanted a mixer that can handle at least 3 channels of input, but it seems like 2 channels are the maximum by an USB powered mixer.

I like Behringer 302 too, but it's in a plastic casing and it only has 1 XLR input, and of course I could buy this and that cable to make it work, but Micromix has 2 XLR inputs and it had a metal casing!! I decided to try out.

The result is a success, I would say. I'm very satisfied. Because its casing is metal, it feels more reliable. No sound problem or whatsoever. everything works as they should.

One thing I don't like about everything that uses the RCA connection is the existence is the RCA. I personally don't trust the RCA. It fails at some point. It just never last. If the left input works, the right one would fail. R works, L would fail. If it has a video output too, either or both audio would fail and only the video would work. why not move on to 3.5mm stereo jack?

Perfect for Zoom music on Mac
DaveinKelso 03.02.2022
I bought this early in Covid Zoom music club meetings to give good sound from my iMac 27 (2013) as the built-in mic and sound processing was unacceptable. This preamp proved excellent, running from USB power and powering an AKG studio condensor mic (or a pair of them). No need for an external power supply.

Good looking USB powered small size mixer with bad sound. Treble, bass and panorama sliders are working not properly and due to mixer small size they are very close to each other, so manipulation is not comfortable. Big expectation - bad experience. Not recommend.

PS
Just right for me
Pennylane Studio 20.11.2022
Needed two more mic channels for my little live PA rig, this fits the bill a treat. Small enough to fix to the PA but big enough to use easily. Two band eq works well and one channel has a mic/line switch which may be useful.
One small gripe is that the outputs are RCA ( standard jacks would be better) so a custom lead was needed for my needs.
USB output, so can be used as a soundcard for recording and monitoring.
Metal case is tough and knobs and controls seem good.
In conclusion very pleased.
