Superb mic....
Anonymous 15.11.2015
Got to admit, I was a little dubious about this mic, how good could it possibly be for £35? But for a gigging drummer on a budget I figured it was worth a try.

First thing that took me by surprise was the weight of this thing. You need a sturdy stand! I like my mic stand off to the side of the kick drum, I want people to see as much of the custom painted head as possible. I bought a stand with a weighted base, rather than legs, (don't won't the guys out front kicking my mic out of the way lol) and I've had to add a little weight to keep it stable. It also feels very solid, like you could drop it and do more damage to the floor than to the mic itself.

Now to the important bit, how does it sound? The simple answer is, great! It picks up plenty of low end, there is a real thud to the sound. A little EQ and it also gives plenty of beater attack, which I need to cut through our bass players sound! I will say, you do have to watch the gain, a touch too far and you will get feedback. Speaker placement is paramount. I also found that tuning in a tighter sound with less boom on my kick helped a lot, it's definitely the resonant frequencies that are causing the feedback. A gate here would work wonders!

All in all, a fantastic mic at an unbeatable price. There could a lot more tBones in my kit bag if they all turn out this good.

Great Value Mic
Richard7040 05.07.2014
Just used this last night for the first time at a gig to mic up the bass drum & also a cahon in a rock/indie/punk band. First thing I noticed was that the connection to the xlr lead was very tight and wondered whether it was too small, it turned out okay and it was a tight/snug fit, but I suppose that isn't a bad thing as it is less likely to come apart, so let's be postive here - perhaps it's an intentional useful feature.

My initial reaction to the sound captured by this mic on the bass drum was astonishment, how could an item so cheap be capable of such good results! The lows were very well defined and precise and I was very happy with how this sound blended in with the rest of the kit.

Next up we used this to mic up a cahon. Probably wasn't my first choice for this but it was the closest and easiest thing to sort as there wasn't as seperate mic available at the time. Well yet again I was very impressed and quite relieved actually that this handled this cahon with ease, Two people from the audience remarked afterwards how great it sounded. Boom!

So in summary, this mic is such great value, I would definately recommend it and don't waste your money on a named brand unless you have money to burn.

You would not think that this is a £35 microhphone
Anonymous 19.10.2014
I bought this microphone for studio recording purposes, such as miking my bass drum, or miking a bass amplifier. I used to use at least two microphones on the bass drum (one for sub the other for punch) - now I just use this!

When placed just inside of the port hole of the bass drum, pointed between the beater and the rim of the bass drum, you will get an amazing punchy yet full sound from this microphone.

The microphone itself is solid, I could chuck it down the stairs and it would't do a thing to it! I will say though that I do not like having the XLR cable coming out the back of it as it generally makes the mic more unwieldy to use especially if you want it inside the bass drum.

Overall though, it would be silly to not get one of these if you are looking for a new bass drum microphone.

t.bone BD 3000

I was looking for a kick drum mic on a budget and having read other reviews of this BD300, which I believe is Thomann's own brand offering, I wasn't expecting much at the price - however, I stuck it in the drummer's kick drum on a small stand and placed it about an inch away from the beater skin just opposite the beater.

It recorded well enough, but it was only when I was able to properly listen to the results in the context of a mix that I was very pleasantly surprised with the results.

Nice and crisp, full-weighted 'thump' with a little bit of click in it - perfect. Wasn't too anodyne and still sounded like a real kick drum, but more than good enough to place in a mix with a little bit of the bottom end rolled off.

More than pleased at this price - I would recommend the BD 300.

Cheap. Cheerful. But consider your sub
Andy345 31.05.2013
This microphone is good for mic'ing up kick drums, or anything bass'y and punchy.

Although, I can't say it's as good as a shure or AKG. T.bone mics are very good, but I feel this mic is just a little bit lacking. The bass is ok, but not quite as rich as other mics.

So I would suggest considering what sub you are using. There's no point spending tons of money on an expensive mic if your speakers aren't up to the job (and vice versa). Therefore if you haven't got the best sounding PA, you'll probably get away with using this mic.

It's cheap, and therefore always worth buying and trying. But not the best sound. Although saying that .. I haven't been able to overwhelm the mic yet. So that's good.

Suprisingly gread

Bought this mic to mic up a bass drum on the cheap without expecting a lot due to the price point. However, after testing it out, the results far exceeded my expectations.

So far I have only tested it as a bass drum mic. I cannot really talk about cons as so far, considering the price point cannot see any but here are the pros:
- Very solidly built: there are no creaks/gaps, the housing feels great.
- Very good sound: gives a lot of low end and fits very well in the mix with minor adjustment
- Comes with a carrying pouch: surprising at this price point.

Overall, loved this product and would highly recommend for anyone who wants to try to record drums on the cheap. Will try more t.bone mics in the future.

TOP QUALITY-PRICE RATIO AND REALLY PROFESSIONAL !
Jaco55 25.01.2024
This mic makes the job, very simply. Much better than some high priced models ( I don't refer to those models not to offend ... )
I had the opportunity to make a "blind test", and believe me, the "pros" who were present there were really astonished.
Well, it looks like a "copy" of a well-known model... The important thing is that it sounds great !!

Awesome mic for bass amp
Anonymous 31.10.2016
Even though this is marked as a kick drum mic I use him for micing my bass amp.

Pros.
Nice built, sturdy housing made from metal, not plastic. For this price does a good job on a bass amp.

Cons.
A little bit lacking in high range. That may be a problem for the kick drum but for the sound on my bass amp it's not a problem.

If you're looking for a cheap but good mic for your bass amp look no further. This little boy will do the job. I'm slowly falling in love with this mic. We did some tries on kick drum and my drummer will buy the whole set t.bone 1500 which includes this mic and we're excited to check other t.bone stuff.

Thank you thomann for good ratio between price and quality.
