The t.bone EM 9900 is a condenser shotgun microphone good for the price
ProteuS404 02.08.2023
The t.bone EM 9900 is a condenser shotgun microphone that is well-suited for a variety of applications, including film, video, and broadcast, I personally use it for sound design. It features a hypercardioid polar pattern that provides excellent rejection of off-axis noise, making it ideal for use in noisy environments. The microphone also has a switchable low-cut filter that helps to reduce unwanted low-frequency rumble.

The t.bone EM 9900 is built to last, with a rugged metal housing that can withstand the rigors of everyday use. The microphone also comes with a shock mount and a windshield to help protect it from wind noise.

In terms of sound quality, the t.bone EM 9900 delivers clear, detailed audio with good transient response. The microphone also has a wide frequency response that captures all the nuances of the sound being recorded.

Overall, the t.bone EM 9900 is a great value for the price. It is a well-made, versatile microphone that delivers excellent sound quality.

Here are some of the pros and cons of the t.bone EM 9900:

Pros:

Excellent sound quality
Wide frequency response
Hypercardioid polar pattern
Switchable low-cut filter
Rugged metal construction
Comes with shock mount and furry windshield

Cons:

Can be a bit bulky
Not as sensitive as some other shotgun microphones

Overall, the t.bone EM 9900 is a great value for the price. It is a well-made, versatile microphone that delivers excellent sound quality. If you are looking for a shotgun microphone that is built to last and sounds great, the t.bone EM 9900 is a great option.

BP
Good, but long
Baobab Produkcija 09.05.2019
It's a very good shotgun for that price range, it sounds clear and the speech is comprehensible. I use it constantly for my work as a boom operator, it has not failed me yet.
Not to have only positive things to say it has two flaws the first one is that it has these small screws that are very flimsy and come off easily, this can be fixed simply by carrying a small screwdriver. It's not a big issue, but it is something that you have to consider when working with em9900.
The other thing is its length, which I personally like but it is harder to find deadcat for it, and I had to get a blimp with an extension.
The last point could be because of my ignorance and lack of search knowledge, but It is also something someone may consider when buying this microphone.
All and all a very good mic for working on films, series or something.
Good luck

Remarkably Good Shotgun
Anonymous 20.02.2017
This is a surprisingly good mic for the price.

I've used it successfully in various live theatre productions and on-location video shootings. It does a great job in situations where more conventional supercardioid mics just aren't up to it.

I simply can't fault the transparency of its on-axis frequency response. Similarly the off-axis attenuation is very pronounced as mics go. Sensitivity is very good too.

Build quality is top notch, externally anyway. (I haven't dismantled it.)

The only negative thing I can find to say about it is the phasing of off-axis sound. You might want to avoid mixing any residual off-axis signal with audio from other mics.

You will pay many times the price for a better long-range shotgun mic. This is a great product.

Well worth the money!
David4019 03.01.2014
I was surprised how good this mic is. The self noise is very low, comparable to Mics costing £200 more than this one. The low end is very good, I think I detect a slight loss of mid range clarity, but it is more than adequate for my needs. I bought this as a back up for a Pro HD NXCam, and find that it provides a good signal without having to turn the Gain right up.
I might add than I am one of those irratating people that is not easily pleased, but I can honestly say that I don't know of a similar mic, with such good credentials!

SHOTGUN ON A BUDGET
colinrobot 18.04.2023
I bought this for Field-recording with my Zoom Black H4n . At the time I could not afford anything more expensive (I now have a Rode NTG4+) so had to look around for a mic that had good enough spec which also fell into my price range. This did both. It was slightly bigger than I wanted but the spec was better than the T-Bone EM 9600. It sounds great although now with a better mic I see its downsides. It has quite good low self-noise and is made extremely well. Best for outdoor use not really an indoor mic .A great choice for a first time budget mic. It's now my backup mic but will never get rid of it.

One of the "should be secret" type tools
Sziklafy 23.02.2021
It's a little bit light in terms of weight, but a very good mic, that is focused and sensitive, has a bit of the backside too, sounds totally fine. If you want to get into shotgun mics, this is definitley a good place to start, cause it won't let you down!

Sound quality good, weird beeping self noise makes it unusable
halfscim 27.09.2020
I wanted to love this mic. The sound quality is quite decent for the price. However, if you listen closely there is a very clear oscillating beeping noise. I tested all sorts of power routing, moving to different areas of the house. I'm using a tried and true Sound Devices Mix Pre 10 II so it's no fault there. I even got an RFI filter. Still beeping. If you're outside the noise of the world will probably mask it, but for critical recording... unfortunately for me it's unusable. I will say the small diaphragm condensers I also got (SC400 and SC600) sound great and don't have the weird beeping.

quality the price is good, otherwise it is a very long microphone, it bothers me that it has an opening along its entire length and not alone at the tip
