I need to fill out my mic draw with some dynamics, and I've of course read up on the other reviews of these t.bone mics. I thought at the price, it's worth a punt to see if it stands up as a realistic alternative to the industry standard for those of us on a tighter budget.

Firstly, I was impressed with the nice hard wearing plastic case that it comes in. Much better than any other mic I have, costing much more. Then the mic itself; Solid look and feel with metal body. Good finish, quality is great. I really could not see anything that would lead me to believe that this was a cheap item.

How does it sound? Well, other people have already compared it to it's more expensive inspiration, so I decided to compare it to some equally cheap dynamics I acquired of the years that I had lying around...

Yoga D727 and a Sanyo MP303. As expected the MB75 BETA out performs these quite easily, as from the specs you can see that the MB75 has a greater frequency response and a tighter polar pattern. Which is usually more preferable for a dynamic mic IMHO. But it's nice to actually hear it.

I then compared it to my trusty AKG C1000 condenser to record acoustic guitar. Not an application that the MB75 is really suitable for, yet I was still quite impressed... at a push you could get away with it in a recording.

On vocals sounds great, smooth and responsive, but of course less detail than a large diaphragm mic. Fantastic for live use I imagine. On percussion it's perfect for all kinds of things.

Basically I've now got a very handy extra tool in the home studio for setting up all kinds of micing situations. i record a lot of acoustic instruments and used in conjunction with other types of mics it will really help me out I'm sure.

Considering the price I don't think I can give this thing any less than 5 stars.

A
Brilliant Dynamic Microphone
Anonymous 12.02.2017
This is a bit of a Beta SM57 clone. I have used this microphone on a few different sources, mainly guitar cabinets, snare drums, saxophone and vocals. This microphone has a slightly hotter output than the non beta version (which I also own). I particularly love this mic on guitar cabs, usually paired with another mic. It handles Sound pressure Levels very well and is suited to loud sources such as percussion/drums and guitar/bass cabinets. I did try this microphone on vocals but I was wasn't overly keen on the results, however this may have been the singer not suiting the mic. I will do a reasonable job on whatever you throw at it.
This is also a very sturdy mic, nice metal construction, a little bit heavier than its little brother the MB75. It feels very solid in your hand with a very sturdy grill. I am confident that this mic will last for years. It also comes with a very good mic clip and a plastic foam lined box.

From a beginner's perspective, excellent mic for guitar amp!
albertotp 12.01.2019
Sound samples on YouTube: is my first mic and I got it mainly for recording a guitar amplifier at home. For the small price, I just decided to give it a try and experiment and I was blown away. It obviously was a huge improvement over recording with my cell phone! I plug it with sssnake XLR cable into a Focusrite iTrack Solo audio interface to record my guitar amp. I just got started recording so I do not have a base for comparison, but I feel both clean and dirty guitar tones are well captured and detailed, including transient attacks, and it did not capture any room noise even though I recorded in my bedroom at low volumes. I still have not tried to record vocals or other instruments.

The mic looks and feels like a high quality and durable product way more expensive than what it actually costs. It comes with a mic clap and a case that you could take anywhere, so it's really designed to be a heavy-duty studio or road microphone.

I am totally satisfied and definitely recommend the product.

Easily as good as a beta 57. I personally use these for guitar amps and also for trumpet and the sound quality tjey produce is second to none.

I use this mainly to mic my amp on stage. It works perfectly. I've used it to mic a cajon (front) as well and definitely no complaints.

Feels like it, looks like it, almost sounds like it.

I'm sure I saw this mic before... surely in studios, most surely in live situations around the globe. I'm just not sure of the name.

Recorded a dozen tracks with this mic and I wish I bought it when it was first released. I use it on lead vocals and electric guitar. It has that radio quality sound that the "real brand" has. Just slightly different frequency characteristics.

Its sound is so clear and distinct, that this has become a studio and live working horse. Dropping it is no problem, there is very little chance of feedback and its just build like a tank. The grill is replacable with a Thomann grill. I like the cardioid patern and noise cancelation is very effictive. If you have a very low budget, cant afford a Rode NT1a or better, need a studio/live mic, get this MB75 or the MB85. It will give pro vocal and instruments results for an unbeatable price. Great for starters, professionals and live musicians.

I have not found any cons jet. Overall you cant go wrong with this mic. Pay attention that the MB75 is most suited to instruments and the MB85 is more suited to vocals, but both can do it all.

Better than its clone.
Anonymous 24.02.2016
I have used this microphone mainly to record snare drum - mainly because of its hypercardioid polar pattern. Because I produce metal music, this polar pattern reduces hi hat bleed significantly. It also has a much nicer presence peak than the Shure Beta 57. I did also use this mic on scream vocals, and it works really well.

The case the mic comes with is very sturdy and the foam seems to protect what is inside. The microphone has a good weight to itself, which definitely assured me when I first received it.

Another fantastic product from thomann.

Honestly, wasn't sure what to expect from this mic and just ordered it for it's price and I've only been using it in rehearsals.
So far, it's really good. You can really hear it's dynamics and it sounds really good.
Also, the case that comes with it is just cool and very safe.

C
cheap but efficient
ChrisVerwimp 11.11.2020
Bought it for some home studio recordings. Wanted something able to work on vocals and instruments.
So far, I'm pleased. I wasn't expecting much regarding how cheap it actually is but I just can't find anything bad to say about it.
I though no switch would be an issue but as I can de-activate it directly from my DAW software or mixer, it doesn't matter.
Extra point earned from it's solid paded case. So much better than the usual simple skay leather pouch fancier mics are sold with.
