Exellent Value for Money LDC.

I got this mic as a lead vocal mic for singing, broadcast, voice over and live recording.
The low-cut and pad are good features especially if recording amplifiers. Sounds good on electric guitar amps as I like to place about 1 meter away from a small amp. Hits a tube pre-amp really well to give it some warmth and shape. Compared to my Rode NT1 pretty well, I've given A/B samples to clients and producers who can't hear the difference.

As someone who has worked with high-end studio mics from Neumann, AKG, etc. this is an entry level home project studio or for professional studio and broadcast recording this is a very good mic that compares to mics 10 times the price. Also good for live vocals with the pad. Great sounds for Acoustic Guitar, Cello, Drum Overheads where the Pad comes in handy.

At this price considering it ships with a solid lockable Thomann hard case, shock mount, pop-filter and XLR cable, I wish I'd got a pair as they would be very useful for stereo applications.

Conclusion: excellent quality product, nice weight to it, a head and shoulders above other sub $100 microphones, don't be put off by chinese manufacturing ! these guys know their engineering and quality control.

Long term (8yrs) Review
BenEgg 09.11.2020
The "Trusty T-Bone", as it's become affectionately know, is built like a tank and has delivered for me in all kinds of scenarios. Yes, it's great for vocals but, over the years I've also had really nice results with acoustic guitars.
It's been used as an overhead/room drum mic and I even did a session where we tracked it behind open backed guitar cabs for the low end (placed aprox 20inches back). It's great, it's still going strong nearly a decade later and you should definitely buy one!

Great Clarity
Andrew72 30.07.2013
I found this mic to be fantastic and performs a lot better than the price would suggest. Its frequency response is well balanced and the low cut switch is useful for adding clarity to muddy signals, in particular singers with low voices. I have recorded both vocals and acoustic guitar with this as the primary mic and used it as a room mic for electric guitar and drums and achieved good results in all cases but this mic is best suited to vocals in my opinion. The pad switch is useful for recording loud sources and reduces the output smoothly without affecting the tone to any significant degree. As with all condenser mics it is important to remember that the tone is also dependent on the preamp used, in my case I was using a Presonus preamp for all recordings.

The case is well constructed and the shock mount works well although I found that the threads began to wear out a lot sooner than I expected.

Worth considering for first mic but get yourself a strong stand!
midinotes 04.06.2014
This has been my first proper home studio microphone and an impressive one too for the price. Supplied in a nice durable mini flightcase the SC450 is a weighty affair. It comes complete with a suspension mount, spare elastic mount cable and stand adaptor. The mic casing is very solid and has a low cut filter and attenuator switch on one side. The sound is extremely good, warm and has a noticeable lift in the upper mid range region. Clean sound and very sensitive, it's certainly comparable to leading manufacture models that cost over double the price. The only downside though for me was the weight, it requires a very strong stand if you intend to run it from a boom. I purchased a basic millenium stand and after a short while I found the threads on the stand where the mic cage mounts were stripping off. So make sure you get yourself a strong support if you intend to hang it from a boom. Otherwise it sits tightly in its cage support (which is very good quality) and looks the part. The mic casing will scratch though after some time, mainly due to the cage being metal (that's not a bad thing though) but it's served me well. A great mic though expect to play around with EQ to get a smooth sound on thin vocals.

Very good price/performance!
Soulhenge 27.05.2021
Excellent microphone for the price, plus it comes in this sturdy hardcase which is very elegant. The mic itself feels nicely heavy and very well put together. The switchable low-cut and dB adjustment are handy features too. I use this mic for YouTube videos but also to talk to friends over Discord etc and it does a fantastic job.

T Bones really are the perfect price/quality balance
Ri Mi 28.04.2023
You can't really do much better on a budget than these TBone mics.
Harley Benton, Millenium, TBone... all these Thomann own brands really have come on in the past few years, so much that I now don't feel any shame in buying and using these brands in good confidence :-)
The mic does what it should - not as subtly on the frequency curves as more expensive mics, and the switches are nasty, but they work.
As with every other review. I think you can't do any beter on a budget and these things really do sound very close to mics which cost 10x more.
Very very much worth it :-)

Serious mic for a silly price
Damien293 26.01.2024
I challenge anyone to find me a large diaphragm condenser mic with this level of quality for a cheaper price. Definitely the best you're going to get for this money.
Finance aside, what is the mic like??? It's a gem, I've used it for acoustic guitar, ambient mic for drum kit, close mic for bass cab, close mic for guitar amp...actually I'll stop there because I can't remember the rest of the uses I've put it to, suffice to say; this puppy is VERSATILE!!
Things to watch out for; it's a little heavy so less solidly built mic stands may struggle if it's at the end of a long boom arm.
NOTE, this is a compressor mic so if you're not used to using them do a little research on what they would generally be used for before buying this and make sure whatever you're plugging it into has phantom power.
Overall; solidly built, great sound, versatile (if you know how to treat it) and SO cheap...what's not to love
