t.bone SC 450 USB - Good Sound but Average Quality
Antique Guitars 30.01.2014
I have been using this microphone for about 6 years for various amateur recording tasks and also for some of my University modules.

This microphone offers great sound recording quality for relatively little money, it has all the features I need for my various recording tasks. The USB connector makes it a flexible tool for home recording and recording on the move. I even used this microphone for Sound Decay and Reverberation tests for the Acoustics module of my Musical Instruments Degree without issue.

The only real problem I have found with this microphone is the quality of the USB connector in the microphone itself. I had to have it sent away twice for repair to fix problems with the USB connector.

Overall this is a good microphone which records good quality sound and is good value for money. It does however need some re-designing in regards to the USB connection.

H
Great Microphone for Discord
Hootsman 26.03.2019
Bought this microphone to use when playing video games and chatting with friends on discord. I use a mechanical keyboard and by tweaking some of the settings I'm able to easily remove the audible clicky background sound from the keys for the most part. Quality is excellent but there's no additional software that comes with this mic so the main control you'll have over this is via the sensitivity wheel on the mic itself and whatever features your OS provides.
Pros:
Excellent sound
Excellent case for portability
Is good at ignoring most background sound that other mics I've had

Cons:
Lack of additional software.

G
Very good sound except USB hum
GBonne 21.02.2019
This is my first large membrane microphone. Meanwhile I had others and time to evaluate objectively this one.
The voice reproduction is great, this is not cheap quality in that regard, i.e. the microphone part (I would recommend the XLR version in that regard). Also the build quality is solid and all metal.

However there is one major issue, without the padding on there is a clear USB 1kHz noise (plus some harmonics in a lesser amount). I tried many things found on the internet, including swapping a USB HUB polarity of the power, pluging direct to PC, inserting a USB to USB isolator, it made no difference.
So for my voice-overs, I was post processing the noise out of it which in turn inevitably affected the voice quality in some amount.

But, for noisy environments, where the padding filter is applied, the microphone close to the sound source (mouth, amp-speaker, instrument,...) it will do just fine. Or also for PC streamers that want a simple plug and play solution without additional hardware and have other noise from intense games etc... Then this mike is perfectly fine.

Mine is now resting in its great enclosure (the box and accessories area great though).

So because of the USB noise it lost its stars but the same without noise would have been a 5 star for sure (go for the XLR version). Great value for money considering the amount of accessories (that are of top quality) and main voice sound quality!

S
Substantial value
Sorwis 16.09.2014
This is an excellent large diaphgram microphone for the price. I've been using the SC 450 USB for a few months now for speech applications. So far I've had no issues with it and it has been a major update to any other microphone I've previously owned.

USB offers effortless connectivity to any PC and being phantom powered, it is the only connector you ever need to use with it. The SC 450 USB works without any proprietary drivers on Windows PCs. The built in ADC is relatively hiss free but its main benefit is really the ease of use since no external intefaces are required and not the highest fidelity audio. The build quality is solid and the whole microphone feels sturdy which is rare for devices in this price range. Sound is natural and rich, especially suitable for speech applications. Low cut filter and one step sensitivity adjustment are welcome features and give extra value for this already competitively priced microphone.

Very much recommended.

A
Warm sound but extremely noisy.
Anonymous 08.06.2016
The T.Bone SC 450 USB is a great tool for beginners. If you have your own home studio and you cannot afford a professional microphone, this is a good choice.
However, the audio file that this device records will be extremely affected by white noise, especially if you record with high gain to capture whispers. The final record needs to be edited by a noise removal tool, which could be the free plugin from Audacity or more professional ones.
If you seek for something better than a dynamic microphone for home studio recording, this is awesome; but if you want to go professional, keep in mind the above observation.

Medium or pro, depending on your recording room, soundboard and skills
johnykes 02.05.2019
It's very sensitive and it can records all the noise from my entire house.
The quality is very ok, more than enough for podcast or livestream.
It's good for voice recording too, but I think it's up to your studio, to your pc/laptop and to your editing skills. I'm proud of some recordings made using this MIC in my cheap home studio made of egg casings :), but if you're a perfectionist, you should buy a MIC with an audio interface or you should have at least a good soundboard into your pc/laptop or some basic editing skills (which I don't... at least for now).
