It is sturdy and a good size. Not too large or small for carrying.
The carrying strap is too short for longer distances than just to bring it inside or outside in a vehicle. It loses 1 star for that.
The 18 briefcase-like compartments are very handy.
And flexible due to the velcro side parts.
But they are not weak.
There are multiple applications to think of outside of music applications, but I bought it for a stage cable set for normal club stages.
Even when it looks like the other compartments become pressed against each other during filling the bag, there's always enough stretch to get them filled anyway.
That stretch (and less weight) are the big general advantages of bags vs hardcases.
I marked all my cables on length and numbered them.
Many cables together will get tangled up in a traditional bag, creating cable spaghetti.
Now I can put the cabled vertical with the plugs upwards with readable labels stuck on them and they are sorted from left to right.
I didn’t even move any velcro devider.
Some compartments have 2 or even 3 similar cables in them.
It depends on the cable length of course that determines how much cables 1 compartment will hold.
The bag is very sturdily padded and sown for this kind of money.
There is still a relatively flat, seperate compartment in the back of the whole length of the bag, and 2 less wide, bulkier, zippered utility compartments at front.
When closing the lid, there is still room to put a few little utility bags and stuff like that on top of the cables before closing the well padded lid, but I leave it clean.
I already overstuffed my previous cable bag, nowadays I rather use another bag for the extra's.
I want to keep this bag a clean cable bag.
Because in the heat of the moment, unpacking an overstuffed bag is always chaotic on stage when there’s not immediate space to put back the empty open little bags and cases. Therefore you need another bag for those seperately.
It creates more system during the storm of setting up and breaking down in a crowdy club.
Now I have all the instrument cables, speaker cables, power cables together and created room for back ups.
I numbered the compartments with velcro and made a spreadsheet with the cables.
To everybody his/her own system but I think this works great.
Besides saving it in my phone I printed it out and plastified it.
That sheet is alway left in the bag (fits nicely in a compartment) and it makes packing the cables a breeze.
The bag is compact enough to take it to any situation even when not all is needed, but for convenience having it all by hand, sorted out.
Like rehearsals.
