Thomann E-Guitar Case BK Wood
Anonymous 01.02.2016
This is my fourth Thomann case, I have previously purchased the tweed version of this case and a couple of their ABS cases, this is in my opinion the best of the three cases.
Internally it's 102.5cm long and at the widest part it's 33cm, weighing in at 5.5kg, I'm comparison the tweed case has the same internal measurements and slightly heavier at 5.6kg, the ABS cases are internally 100cmm long by 34cm and lighter weight at 4.1kg.
This case is essentially the same case as the more expensive tweed version but instead of the tweed covering, (which does look good but marks and stains quite easily) this is covered in black synthetic leather which I think will stand up better to marks in the long run.
I own a few Fender AVRI (American Vintage ReIssue) guitars, my '52 Telecaster's came in Fender tweed cases and my '72 Telecaster Custom came in a Fender black leatherette case.
The Thomann cases look quite similar to the Fender cases, (almost the same external dimension, the Thomann cases are around 2cm longer and the same width and depth but they appear slightly larger due to them having squarer corners while the Fender cases have rounded edges).
I purchased this case for a MIJ Fender Mustang, the tweed version is for a MIM Fender Classic Player 50's stratocaster and the Thomann cases really look the part with these two guitars.
The case easily holds the mustang, my strat and tele's all fit as well, all have a little movement, my dedicated fender cases fit their instruments slightly better but the little movement in the Thomann case isn't excessive, not enough to cause concern and certainly to be expected in an aftermarket case.
I feel these offer much the same level of protection as the AVRI Fender cases at a quarter of the price, fine for storage at home, transport in a car or van, being carried short distances etc etc however for serious travel / flights / touring etc I'd obviously want a heavier duty flight case.
This case has a storage area with a lid, a very useful space and holds quite a lot, it's worth mentioning that the Thomann ABS cases have two small storage spaces but no lids and this is the weak part of their design, (and the reason I won't buy them again), allen keys and case keys, trem arms, capo etc all fall out of the storage pockets and can damage your guitar rendering the storage useless than anything other than a cleaning cloth, strap or larger items that can't slip into the main case.
I purchased the Thomann ABS cases to hold a Danelectro DC56 Mod and a Danelectro DC56-12, the Danelectro's fit quite well with just a little movement but trying the Danelectros in this case (and the tweed version), the are a great fit , you have to squeeze them into the soft edhe padding but they are held really well with no movement and I'd consider changing the ABS cases for a couples more of these cases because of the superior fit and the storage area lid.
Thomann delivery to the UK was fast and reliable, tracking updates from dispatch to delivery, a really great service.
The case is probably the cheapest hard case around but doesn't lack anything, even with the shipping charge I can't buy a cheaper hard case locally and I really don't see the point on spending more for this level of protection.
Highly recommended and I will be buying more as I need them.

Great value for the money
André C. 31.08.2024
If you have an affordable guitar, and you want a case to protect it, you're probably not willing to spend on the case, more than the guitar is worth. That's were this case shines, it's the perfect case for inexpensive guitars.
It's affordable, it looks the part, gets the job done, and does it well.
That being said, I had some problems with mine in terms of finishing and quality control.
One of the locking laches was defective and didn't lock, and also it didn't feel as sturdy as the others. On the second day of owning it, the rivet that hold the lach in place broke and the lach came loose.
If it was an expensive case, I would have definitely sent it back, 100%. But given the price, I fixed the lach myself and kept it.
Now the lach is once again functional and the fix is barely noticeable, however it still doesn't lock.
Most likely I ended up with a lemon, affordable products tend to have very loose quality control, so it can happen. It's something to keep in mind.
That being said, I don't regret my purchase and I might get another one in the future. As long as you don't expect premium quality for a budget product, you'll be pleased.

Decent enough

I really only bought this to help sell & ship a guitar in so I haven't had much actual "use".

First impressions are overall good - tolex work, lining, padding etc. all well done.

Has the typical latches you find on cases in this price range, they work but they have that certain lower quality feel to them you don't find on the likes of fender and gibson cases for example.

The fit for a strat isn't the best - a lot of up and down movement, not a whole lot of side to side, but it needs a lot of padding to secure it inside the case if you are using it for shipping.

If the case were knocked over in normal use I would be concerned about neck pocket cracks on fender types and headstock & heel cracks on something like an SG (not sure if an SG actually fits in the case though) so while it would offer good protection from things hitting the outside, fairly serious drops would be cause for concern. Obviously not as protective as a fully form fitting case but they can cost up to 3 times the price.

Have to say it's one probably the first Thomann product I haven't been overly thrilled about but it's always the same with hard cases - there's always a bit of compromise when the price is factored in, it works, but feels like it possesses the bare minimum it needs to work and more effort was put into it looking right.

The guitar I shipped arrived perfectly safe with all the extra padding and I was able to use the box the case shipped in, I used Hermes and in the UK they do have a reputation for mistreating parcels, so it functioned well in that capacity at least.

Solid, but not amazing
Pohorc 14.10.2021
I bought this case for a Fender Player's Strat I don't intend to gig much, if at all.

The case's exterior construction is great, the materials feel sturdy, the fabric is quality stuff and the clips are okay, but feel a bit cheap. The handle is rock-solid and from the outside, the case looks really good.

However, the big downside is that the interior, while nicely dressed and with plenty of room (including a small compartment with a lid), is simply not padded thick enough to keep my Fender Strat in place. When the case is closed, the guitar isn't snug inside the case - slides up and down and you can feel it moving around if you walk around with the case.

Because of the flimsy interior, I would not consider using this case on tour or for serious, regular gigging. The construction is good though, especially for the price, and for basic, occasional transport, this case is more than enough.

Great durable case for the rough ride
Sisa 28.12.2017
I bought this case a few years ago because it was the cheapest. I wasn't very picky about it I admit. But boy was i pleasantly surprise.

I have a Squier bullet and affinity and had no problems with guitars moving in the case. there's some play but nothing critical. Its not that heavy, so handling is easy even with all the equipment inside. The compartment for stuff is convenient although a bit small. you can put inside two cables a pedal and a tuner. everything more you have to get a bit rough when closing. The overall build is very strong. I was pleasantly surprised when i made the first harsh scratch that it is actually wooden. Today i still use it as a main gig case. the side stitches are still ok, the other fabric is mostly damaged. But you have to take into account i Didn't look after it. it was there to protect my guitar. and it still serves me well.

After all the abuse the only thing damaged is one of the lock got slightly bent but not a big deal. If you look after it it will last decades. A friend has the same model but for bass and is after 10 years still in great visual and working condition

Beware, sharp edges!
combatrobban 17.01.2023
Watch out for the handle, i cut myself in two fingers when i grabbed it. Had to use pliers and a file to make the pins less sharp. Other than that its a good case for the money. I hope the strong chemical smell go away over time.

Flawless
CJLoose 01.05.2020
I've used fender hard cases that have felt more flimsy. I have used this case solidly for several months and everything on it is holding up nicely. The fit is perfect for several of my guitars, including my Harley Benton CST-24T, and the finish is has given no points for concern. Nothing is loose, and everything feels sturdy, and time has not changed that. The pocket is well-positioned, without getting in the guitar itself, and has a decent amount of space for pedals and accessories. Truly, there is nothing wrong with my purchase, and I will definitely be purchasing another for my other styles of guitar.

Best balance between price and quality
Jojobloop 28.09.2022
I'm a bit too cautious about my guitars and like to keep them in hard cases. Thomann guitar case is strong enough to endure anything can happen during storage and travel. I even took them with me for an overseas flight and arrived without any problems. Only flaw is the handle is a bit loose but strong enough to lift the weight.

Only one improvement needed
Cre8tv 27.04.2022
I wish the gear pocket inside was deeper, because I can't fit all my pedals in. There is at least another inch available. Other than that its a great case for this price. Seems like good construction. The two locking clasps would never keep a thief out, but they are only meant so your case doesn't accidentally pop open on you and they are great for that. And the guitar shaped key is a cute touch.

Amazing quality!

Got this to protect my old electric guitar, I was not expecting the quality because of the price, but I was really surprised by it. I don't think there's a better price:quality ratio out there. 10/10
