A good value/price ratio
Sirisobhakya 12.01.2021
Use: To get a different voice from my main horn (bass trombone) for homemade videos and such

The SL-39's quality is good for this price range. The slide is not perfect and requires decent amount of slide lubricant to get it moving acceptably, although still around 7/10. However, the overall build quality is good, an the assembly is solid and clean. It is quite front-heavy, which is not so good for any trombone, but not that severe and I think I will try fix it myself with homemade solution (like taped weight).

I cannot say much about the intonation and sound, since this is my first alto experience. However, it does sound like ones I have heard others played before, and the intonation quirks, while present, are easy to adapt to. The case is also compact and lightweight. Overall I am satisfied with the purchase.

***I test it with GEWA 7C mouthpiece, not the one that came with the horn.

Pros: Good overall build quality, good value for price, nice case and supplements
Cons: Slide is not perfect, a bit front heavy

A
Excellent Alto for a small price
Anonymous 18.12.2015
I have had the Thomann SL-35 for a week now and have already used it for a symphonic concert. I bought it as a spare alto while my current alto is in for repairs. I was really impressed by the sound and intonation of this Alto. My main alto is the Kühnl & Hoyer Slokar Eb- Alto Trombone 175.
The SL-35 by Thomann appears to be a copy of the slokar alto trombone and a very good copy at that!! I found the sound and intonation to be very similar with almost no learning curve!
I did not use the mouthpiece that came with the instrument as this felt a bit strange and affected the intonation. I used a regular bach 12c. The case is lightweight and not bulky.

I would firmly recommend and have recommended buying this alto for students, advanced students and even professionals on a budget!

A remarkable little trombone!
trombonista 25.05.2019
I'd been toying with the idea of an alto trombone for a while, but didn't want to spend silly money on a pro one for the occasional alto blow. This had such good reviews I thought I'd invest. Glad I did! It's a great little hooter.
Comes in a lovely lightweight case with pockets and backpack straps, and has a mouthpiece (12ish sort of size) and lubricant included.
It's immaculately finished and the slide is great!
I usually play Conn or Rath professional tenor trombones and I'm really impressed with the quality and tone of this!

Great, Cheap Horn
gehentogo 12.10.2018
I didn't expect much with this, but it is a fantastic little horn. I have been a professional trombone player for years, and thought it time I learned alto. In the old days you couldn't get an affordable Eb to learn on, but this makes it practically mandatory.
