I find this has more projection than BD4 but probably will need some thinner mouthpiece patch than Yamaha 0.5mm I use. I suggest trying It with number 3 Vandorens. Most likely will work with V12 number 3. Try this and BD4. Subjectively, maybe the greatest mouthpieces ever.. Don't try BD5, doesn't worth in my opinion, except you are a student and learn blowing, then definitely BD5 for some years.. BD4 & BD7 for professionals and experienced students, Highly recommended!!!!!

Bought to replace a Boosey & Hawkes 926 No.2 mouthpiece used on a Boosey & Hawkes Emperor Bb clarinet with Rigotti Gold Classic Cut 3 Light reeds and a BG LD Duo silver-plated ligature. Primarily preparing classical repertoire for ABRSM Grade 8 exam next month.
My teacher suggested trying a mouthpiece with a bigger opening and a softer reed to play the higher notes. Unable to go and try some out in a shop due to Covid restrictions and unsure of the spec of my old mouthpiece, took a gamble on this BD7 for its 1.33 mm tip opening and have not been disappointed. Easy to play, the sound is cleaner, more consistent and less breathy, even with the 3 Light reeds. My old Rico Royal 2.5s were way too soft, but tried the BD7 with a selection pack of three different sub-strengths of Rigotti Gold Classic Cut 2.5 reeds and preferred the 2.5 Medium.

My opinion about Vandoren Bb- Clarinet Black Diamond BD7
yordanov333 19.04.2023
My teacher recommended that I replace my BD5 mouthpiece with a wider one, namely BD7, because I lacked the contrast in playing. I couldn't play hard because my BD5 was clogged. Now that I'm using BD7, I want to say that this is a wonderful mouthpiece with amazing features. My tone has freed up and I can now make a great contrast to piano and forte. I recommend musicians who use a lot of airflow and like to play with more open mouthpieces to try this model.
