experimental

this is a really soft beater, defiinetely not for eveyone and for any application, but if you're into some experimenting I would suggest use it , you never know when you will need it especially if you have a small home studio like me, it is good to have it lying around so you can try it out with certain songs etc. One note, be carefull if you're transporting it , don't just leave in the bag with other hardware, base is made from cork so it is fragile, put it in separate pocket or something. Regarding the sound, it really gives you that BOOM from you bass drum that you can't achieve with any other beater. So to sumarize: great for experiment, probably not to be used as main beater, only if you are into some vintage or jazz stuff. Overall, love it !

i didn't buy this beater because i've needed vintage bass sound or something like that. I've buy this beater because i want low volume kick sound with lot of sustain and low end. And i've got what i wanted. Excellent choice.

A
Bass drum beater - also soft mallet for percussion
Anonymous 21.10.2016
Great warm sound compared to your usual felt beater. Applications range from everything from Jazz to Pop.

I also use it as a mallet for tuned percussion/Cymbals etc when I'm in a pinch.

Finally, I have a 16" bass drum which is mounted on a small riser. The issue with this is that the batter head of the drum comes at an angle, the usual wheel shaped beater only hits with a corner of the surface, which doesn't produce the sound I'm after. This beater remedies this issue as the surface area is so big.

Vintage Bomber

This beater helped me in more ways than I thought it would, it is one of the best drumming purchases I have ever made.

The sound is less defined and is more similar to using a mallet on toms, but this in turn opens up a new way of using the bass drum like a large floor tom. I have always tried to keep that theory in mind while playing, but this beater allowed me to turn that into practice a lot more successfully in an attempt to play more melodically.

I also play an acoustic kit in an apartment building where using the bass drum has always been a problem, but the more mellow sound of this beater mixes in much better with the rest of kit and does not stand out as much as it used to.

I found it to be of great use for jazz drumming, can highly recommend it.

A
Great sound and feel
Asiko 28.10.2020
I use it for jazz applications but not only. It also provides and nice soft low-end sound when playing backbeats and stuff. I gave it 4 stars and not 5 just because it gets worn out quite quickly - I've been using it for a month or two and one side is already quite flat and the felt nearly disappeared. I can turn it and use the other ends, but at this rate, I'll have to get a new one within a year or so.

This beater will give a really great sound on any bass drum. It gives a massive but muffled sound when it hits the bass drum, just like the old school jazz drummers. I can't get enough of this beater - it's the bomb!

The only downside I've come across whilst using it is when you play faster patterns with your bass drum, it's often hard to keep up with yourself. It's maybe just a tad heavy but other than that little flaw, its a great beater.

If you want to get that vintage jazz sound - or maybe just something with a bit more bom - then this beater is for you!

Suprise sound for your palette
snurf 08.04.2015
If you look to enhance sound palette of your bass drum, this is the product worth to look for. I play on vintage drum sets and looked to provide as much old school vintage sound as possible with a tuning and drum heads. To get that classic open mellow 50's jazz, swing, rock n' roll bass drum sound you shall use (seriously expensive) calfskin head.
Vintage Bomber beater eliminates this issue perfectly. It gives unbelievable open, warm, muffled sound. As vintage as you can imagine. The best effect is reachable on typical single ply head (Ambassador, G1). I put additionally a patch. Beater is light in weight.
The soft "wool emulating" material could be little bit more resilient: after hour of play it becomes dense. It doesn't occur the sound.
The sound generated is so interesting that the beater could be useful in drum n' base, funk and latin music situation. If you want that touch of vintage spice in your play.
Really worth to try!

Capture that open low end sound
akirb 10.02.2022
Thus soft beater generates an open warm sound.
The wool around this beater reduces the attack of your stroke but leaves warmness and low end suitable for all genres.
This beater is more versatile than you think and has become a critical part of many drummers kick drum sound

Excellent sound from this beater
Anonymous 24.05.2016
You will give another dimension to your bass drum sound with this beater. Don't be surprised when you hear the open, jazzy yet muffled sound you'll get. It's incredible!

If you are looking for a jazzy vintage sound, then this beater is the one. It may be a bit on the heavy side if you want to chain fast notes, but that's rarely the case in jazz' bass drum, so it's all good.

Prepare to have your mind blown! =)
