A really excellent compressor pedal!
Panos! 23.03.2022
First of all, this compressor doesn't color the sound much, at least to my ears! On my clean parts its always on, because they sound louder and, actually, better with it. Thus, it quickly became a necessary part of my pedalboard. On the gainy parts, I use it sporadically, because my sound is usually already compressed. What makes it very, very adaptable is the Blend knob. It helps me retain the attack and the dynamics of my playing while using it! The tone knob works great bringing back some of the lost highs. I really like my Ego 😉

Not a bargain - but worth each cent

I'm performing country, blues and southern - so a compressor is needed (in my humble opinion).
Over the time I tried a lot of compressors from different brands but never got what I was looking for: A compressor which is nor surpressing the "twang" but delivering a nice and meaty sustain. In several rig rundowns of "sophisticated" musicians I could see the Wampler Ego - and finally I ordered it (with the certainty I could return it on problems). Delivered within 2 days (Thanks Thomann Team) I was able to try it: the settings are very flexible and allow exactly what I was looking for: This is the compressor for country music! I peeked again into several rig rundowns and "stole" the settings of this box from Brad Paisley and Brent Mason - perfect!

the compressor

It has its own sound I was already aware of it, but when I tried it this pedal was never ever turned off in my pedalboard. Even on minimum settings it has a smooth compression sound and you almost can't go wrong with dialing this thing. Works beautifully on bass also, I will try it on random things because this is a crazy good hardware compressor as well lol if you can, buy this

Very good , you will smile with the sustain.

First time I did a gig with this I sustained a note for 3-4 minutes during a set, just worked out RIGHT for the tune at the time LOL

It arrived in my hands just yesterday (only 7 days Germany-Greece thanks to thomann service) I had great reservations about buying a compressor again because I had previously tried two other well-known companies and they did not satisfy me. Τhe well "blue"one, was very noisy, it colored my sound quite a bit - which I didn't want - but it had very good sustain. Unfortunately the lack of Blend was a big mistake. The other yellow - one had bad sustain, didn't color the sound, and all it did was give me better clarity. The truth is, I was asking for a compressor to increase my sustain and inevitably had to buy one again. I trusted the rating on thomann from the friends who left their rating and really buying the Ego was very right. First of all, it has a plurality of settings. The 5 knobs Volume, Sustain, Tone, Attack and especially the Blend, give you the possibility to adjust your sound perfectly.
(Tips: If you are using a noise suppressor with send/return loop, put the compressor first in the noise gate loop before your drive pedals. It's the best position to have absolutely NO noise and the compressor help is what it should be. If the noise gate does not have a noise loop, put the compressor first right after the noise gate output, after the drive pedals)

Yesterday I tried it with many different settings and you really can find the perfect sound with so much potential. Best of all though is the Blend knob. This knob should be on every compressor pedal, because it gives you the ability to compress exactly how much you want your sound, but at the same time to keep the ability of your hand when using dynamics in your playing. An excellent pedal that will logically always be in the ON position on my pedalboard.

Updated V1 advertised and packaged as V2

Be aware of this. Got mine packaged as V2, but actually it is updated V1. Top mounted jacks, but the footswitch is not soft switching. False advertising.

Good!

versatile box. sounds great. 1 con for me is that I personally prefer classic parameters on a compressor. i find these knobs a bit confusing sometimes. but what the heck, If it's good enough for Brent Mason..

Use this in acoustic/electric pedal board.

Pro's: It's all pro's!! Great control over sound, sustain and blend. Unit is solid as a rock and controls very responsive. One of my favourite board purchases! Would definitely recommend.

Perfect compressor pedal
beanstew 10.09.2021
I tried a few and this one ticked all the boxes. Love having all the knobs, especially the blend. Can get a real fat compressed tone, or subtle effect. Barely any noise even when sustain is high. One of my favourite pedals on my board.
