I needed some active speakers to use at band rehearsals and recording sessions, because our singer needed to be able to hear herself properly against the sound of our guitars, keyboards and drums.
I looked at various cheaper options (e.g. TourTech) but they seemed to be somewhat flimsy. So I then looked at more expensive options, and found that the Yamaha DBR and DXR ranges had received good reviews. I already use a pair of small Yamaha HS5 studio monitors, so I have confidence in the brand.
I saw that a pair of Yamaha DXR 8s were available via Amazon at the low price of £998, so I placed an order for those. However, the merchant ('electronic centre' in Belfast) repeatedly tried to contact me via phone, which raised my suspicion that they were attempting to deploy a 'bait and switch' tactic. After attempting to induce me to speak to them three times, they cancelled the order. I would not be surprised to find that they never had a pair of DXR 8s when I placed the order.
I then ordered a pair of DXR 10 Mark II speakers from Thomann, because the company has fulfilled every order that we have placed with them since 2012.
The speakers were delivered quickly, and arrived undamaged.
The DXR 10s are light enough for an elderly person like me (I'm 72) to carry upstairs. Although I bought them for band rehearsals and recording sessions, their construction is robust enough to allow them to be used with confidence as our main PA speakers, and the sound quality is excellent, like a very powerful HiFi system (2,200 watts)!
All in all, I am very happy with the product, and also with Thomann's service.
