I have a Martin D18 so i can make a straight comparison between the two. Without question, the LS16 represents unbelievably good value for money being a third of the cost of the D18 but coming very close to parity in terms of sound quality and volume. However, in terms of playability, the LS16 is far easier to play than the D18 albeit the LS16 is strung with 12s while the D18 has 13s. The build quality on the LS16 is superb - as good as the Martin. Moreover, you get the passive pickup with the Yamaha - not so with the Martin. If you’re considering a Yamaha guitar such as the LS16, rest assured you will NOT be disappointed if you buy, as it is a superb instrument. I’ve become a Yamaha fan now and it’s hard to fathom how this brand isn’t recognised globally as a top-class guitar manufacturer.
