Good pad, but...
John408 20.02.2015
This is a well made pad. Nice 3 zone feature, choke, good feel to the product....

I do have a few concerns about it though:
1 - its volume / mmidi velocity seems to change in the same relative position around the cymbal. For example: hit the cymbal pad on the yamaha mark, say 5" from the edge, and it sounds one way. Hit the pad in the same spot on the opposite side of the pad and it is a bit softer sounding. Not like a real cymbal is.
It does come with a little stabiliser piece though that stops it rotating around when you play so at least it helps to keep the pad in place for consistency when playing.

2 - Maybe this is too much to expect, but it lacks the nuances of a real acoustic cymbal. This is not an issue for most styles such as pop, rock, metal, folk, etc but for times when you want to treat the cymbal differently it wont allow for that. Techniques such as edge-stick-hitting, sound cupping the cymbal etc...

3 - It is noisier than expected. If you have thin walls in an apartment, then depending on your neighbours, hitting this may still generate enough of a "thuck" sound that repetitive playing may get the neighbours at your door.

4 - It is larger than its PCY-135 cousin, which is essentially the same pad, just a little smaller. If I was buying again, I would probably stick to the smaller pad again to save some space and money. These pads are just trigger replications of the real deals, and having a small pad can be a wiser choice in the long run of things (transportation, general space savings, etc)

Over all it is a decent enough product, and certainly better than the cheaper variations and brands on cymbal pads. This may seem like a "harsh" critique, and maybe it is, but where this falls short, the cheaper ones fail outright.
A good product to recommend.

Good - but only if you have a Yamaha module
John439 27.11.2018
The cymbal itself has a really good, quality feel as you would expect from Yamaha. The packaging is simple but sturdy.

I used this cymbal with an Alesis DM10 drum module and it worked ok with the occasional missed triggering. However, I suspect that better results would have been had if I had used the cymbal with a Yamaha drum module.

In summary I think the Yamaha PCY-155 is a nice, large, well built cymbal that is just as well built as the equivalent Roland cymbal. The price is much more attractive but you are likely to get mixed results if you use it on a non-Yamaha module.
