Yamaha Recording Custom 13"x6,5" BR

I've been thinking about buying this snare drum for a long time, and there's nothing bad to say about this series from Yamaha. But beyond that, the snare's crunchy tone worked great when used with a Snarewieght product. I particularly like 13" snare drums, but I have to admit that the combination of brass and 13x6.5 inch worked great. The 13 inch restrains the open character of the snare drum that comes from being brass. And the 6.5 depth adds a depth to the tone. Normally I've been using Tama Soundlab 14" maple snare for a long time and I wanted this as a second snare. But after using it for a while, I centered on this one and made Tama my second snare.
The material quality is very good. I don't think you need to change the snare wire. I would also like to thank the Thomann team for their help with the product and the shipping process. Excellent snare!!!

A very musical tone, nice and deep but it contains the same essence tuned high. It is ringier than my Aluminium RC. Nice attack, lovely longer sustain which is why it's musical and a decay perfect for the instrument. 13x6.5 model has body too. Can tune it highly and has a fantastic back beat and all the notes between. A great Snare to have with my Aluminium. Like if you dig the Yamaha stuff you can't go wrong with the RC series. Around 500 bones and really worth every one and more. Drum offers real horsepower when I want it. A beautiful professional snare.

konkurriert mit meiner wohlklingenden Gretsch USA Custom 14 x 6,5" Bronze um den Gebrauch als Standardsnare, auch wenn sie eigentlich nur die hohe Ergänzung sein sollte.
Ist druckvoll, hell und voluminös, kann dabei variabel gestimmt werden, bietet aber durch den Brass-Kessel mehr Obertöne, die die Snare sehr durchsetzungsfähig machen. Sie kann erstaunlich tief gestimmt werden, aber auch so hoch, bis ich Sorge um die Felle bekomme. An der Verarbeitung habe ich nichts zu meckern, auch die Abhebevorrichtung scheint stabil und solide.
Holzsnares haben mir im Bandalltag mit traditioneller Rockmusik zu wenig Obertöne. Deswegen hat die in sich sehr stimmige und originelle Mapex Black Panther Fastback 12 x 7" Maple Snare bei mir einen schweren Stand. Auch sie hat viel Volumen, was sie als helle Ergänzung zu einer voluminösen Snare nicht einfach macht und mit den Bronze und Brass Snares nicht gut kombinierbar macht.
Da ist dann die Pearl 13 x 3" Piccolo Snare besser geeignet. Diese hat aber für Brass einen erstaunlich trockenen Klang.

Wat is dit een heerlijke snaredrum! Ik kwam hem tegen toen ik op Youtube enkele video's bekeek van percussionisten/drummers in de orkestbak van Broadway shows. Ik was meteen verkocht!

Ik heb er meteen een setje Aquarian vellen (Texture coated met power dot + classic clear snare reso) op gelegd en moet zeggen dat de combinatie met deze snare echt top is!

Ik gebruik deze snaredrum in een harmonie-orkest en hij kreeg meteen héél wat positieve feedback van mede-muzikanten. Hij kan het hele repertoire aan, van musicalnummers tot concertwerken. Hij heeft een mooie, ronde en volle sound die van zeer subtiel tot extreem luid kan gaan. Ik heb hem medium hoog gestemd, wat van deze snare een prima all rounder maakt. De 13x6,5 afmetingen zorgen ervoor dat deze snare voldoende body en warmte heeft, maar ook lekker kan knallen. Rolls klinken haast als fluweel, rimshots snijden door het orkest,... Hij kan het allemaal.

Een minpuntje is de kwaliteit van de hardware. Zelfs bij medium stemming draaien de stemschroeven zo vast, dat finetunen een krachtmeting wordt. Het snaremechanisme loopt ook niet helemaal soepel. Maar misschien moet hij gewoon nog even "ingewerkt" worden. Ik geniet alleszins van deze prachtige snare!
