Artec Vintage Phase Shifter

143

Phaser Modulation EffectArtec is a relatively new star in the effects device scene and is characterised by solid quality and very attractive prices.

The crew around Mastermind Byoung-Yul Lim has been very busy in the past 2 years developing a separate range of analog pedals and combo amplifiers. Excellent systems have emerged with no need to shy away from international comparisons. The vintage phase shifter makes exactly what its name says: Phaser sounds (which can not "calculate" a digital device really well), like we know them and love them from the 70s. Useful Leslie sounds are also possible (which the Phaser should have originally copied). Adjustable speed, depth and resonance (the latter to give the sound the necessary sharpness - according to taste). And the price? Sensational!

  • An ideal re-launch of the phaser sound
  • Very variable from crystal-clear radio over long sweeps to the fast Rotary-Sound of a Leslies
  • Controls: Depth / Reso / Speed
  • True Bypass
  • Input and Output Jack: Jack
  • Power supply: 9 V battery or power supply
  • Heavy zinc die-cast casing
  • Dimensions (W x D x H): B 75.5 x 116 x 49 mm
  • Weight: 340 g

The Artec Vintage Phase Shifter was my first phase pedal and served me well for the time. I used it for recording and live performances on my pedalboard.

I liked the versatility of the phase but it is (as said) an vintage phaser so the phasing is subtle and not too intense.

The only thing i don't/didn't like on the pedal is it's loud switch noise and the phase hissing sound. Otherwise a good pedal for the money.

Awesome pedal

I like this pedal a lot for its classic analog warmth and It will stay permanently in my clean signal chain.

SOUND - I use it mostly for cleans and it sounds very natural, dreamy and warm. For distortion and leads, there's just too much modulation for my taste, even with lower depth settings.

CONTROLS - The usual for phaser type effects. They work well and can take you from really subtle yet pleasant phasing to some crazy sounds.

This pedal is a great buy. Really cheap, yet it looks sturdy and sounds very good.

I use this with a Warwick corvette 4 string, and its a really good phaser for bass. Nice and warm. Little noise when switched on , you can hear the phasing with a little hiss, but its just little, so yeah, it rocks !Could have done with seperate tone control, but hey, this price !! :) I like the look, build is fine.
Cant go wrong for the money I think

P
my favourite pedal
Paul2872 30.12.2014
I did not have great expectations for this effects pedal, and I only chose it at the last minute to qualify for free postage. However, the construction is top-notch and the sounds available from this have just blown me away. There are a lot more expensive pedals out there that do not produce as good a sound and are not nearly as fun.

There is a wide range of adjustment and I have had more fun from this pedal than any other I have tried, it is really a vintage phasing sound that makes you feel like Jimi Hendrix.

The level of noise seems to be on a par with similar pedals. The printing on the top of the pedal looks a little fuzzy, but I'm not sure whether this was intentional as it doesn't detract in any way from the quality and gives it a neat vintage feel.
