Seven-channel mixer and USB interface

The Behringer VMX1000 USB is a state-of-the-art, rack-mountable, seven-channel mixer with five faders that features five selectable stereo channels and two additional microphone inputs. Three stereo channels are switchable between line and phono input, allowing turntables to be at the centre of any setup. Featuring a total of 10 line inputs, an additional stereo aux send and return bus for external effects, and two microphone inputs, the VMX1000 USB is highly versatile and will seamlessly adapt to whatever setup the user might concoct. The built-in BPM counter (which includes the proprietary "Sync Lock" and "Beat Assist" functionalities) and the XPQ 3D Surround effect alone are worthy of note - further adding to the VMX1000 USB's appeal.

Structure and functionality

As is the norm with DJ equipment, each channel of the VMX1000 USB features a three-band EQ section complete with "Kill" and "Bypass" functions. The output of each channel is controlled via rugged yet precise ULTRAGLIDE faders. The VCA-controlled crossfader curve can be redrawn to suit individual taste, complete with a professional Reverse switch. To set gain levels easily, each stereo channel features its own highly visible level meter, complete with Peak Hold and Pre-Fader Listening (PFL) options – and for added cue control, the headphone mix can be switched between stereo and mono split mode.

A vast array of configurations

The audio source type is selected via a button situated at the top of each stereo channel. Channels 1 to 3 can switch between line and phono inputs, channels 4 and 5 in turn between line and CD. The VMX1000 USB features an additional auxiliary send and return bus (switchable between mono and stereo), to use in conjunction with external effects processors - to further expand the creative possibilities. The VMX1000 USB isn't application-specific, however its comprehensive array of connections and functionalities will adapt to any situation. Moreover, it is a great value console for DJs and MCs as two mic inputs, complete with Talkback function, will appeal to anyone wishing to shout out while spinning their vinyl.

About Behringer

The company, which was founded in Germany by Uli Behringer and now manufactures its products in China, has been known for affordable and great-value equipment since its very first product, the Studio Exciter F. An array of mixing consoles (such as the Eurodesk MX8000), signal processors, and later sound amplification and monitoring equipment, has made it possible for countless musicians to fit out their home studios, practice rooms, and mobile PAs within budget limits that were previously unthinkable. The acquisition of other companies, including Midas, Klark Teknik, and TC Electronic, meant that new product groups were added - and also resulted in the technical expertise of these companies being incorporated into product development.

Noteworthy features

Each microphone channel features a three-band EQ with kill switch, a dedicated AUX send, and to round things off, a smart talk-back function with a dedicated "mix" knob to easily adjust the balance between the mix and the vocals. The VMX1000 USB also comes with a smart dual BPM meter, complete with time and beat sync display, allowing the DJ/performer to remain one step ahead at all times. To further enhance the sonic palette, the XPQ 3D Surround option can be selected at the master output. This filter, which widens the stereo image of the mix to the desired amount, can be used to great effect on mono tracks, as these will blend even better into the mix.

My new Behringer VMX1000USB
Martyn Wood 16.01.2015
I have found myself wishing for extra inputs when DJing in the past few months. My VMX200 was just too fiddley when switching between line and phono, and with so many people coming up with their mobiles wanting me to play a track I decided it was time to upgrade.
Looking around I soon decided on the Behringer VMX1000USB as the desk for me. The fact that I could have so many inputs easily controlled as well as my laptop as a USB input clinched the sale.
Now I can connect my two CD decks, laptop and Tablet and still have two cables ready to connect anyone's phone should I need to - GREAT!!
The controls are easy to use but I would have liked to see the sync beat LEDs that other models have, they just make mixing a bit easier, however that is such a small detail in comparison to the overall high quality of the desk.

VMX1000USB - not as good as predecessors
Anthony2142 12.09.2016
Decided to replace our existing (but fully working) Behringer Pro Mixer DJX 700, but sadly, the sound quality from the new VMX1000USB was no where near as good. Lots of features and connectivity on the new model which we wanted, but the sliders just felt too loose / flimsy with little response / feedback. Interestingly a colleague has the previous Behringer Pro Mixer VMX1000 and this sounded great as well - hence the reason for our purchase - so either there were a lot more compromises / cutbacks made on this new VMX1000USB model, or we just had one that did not perform as well. In summary, if you want a mixer that has lots of features and connectivity at a brilliant price, this model can't be beaten, but the sound quality is not the best, which is a shame compared to other Behringer products that we have owned.

Handy unit, not the best build quality but the price reflects that. A bit of an odd layout and some imbalance of features but generally ok.
