Hi!

I´ve recently discovered these strings for me. I was in the middle of recording process and I needed some fresh strings. I found one set at home and bought a couple of them at a local guitar store. Normally I used to play on Rotosound MA11 sig. set. So I will be comparing them a little.

I play an Ibanez RG2020x tunned in drop c. Over the years I figured out the perfect set for me - it was Rotosound MA11 (11-59), but I ran out of them and needed some fresh strings quickly, so I picked up the daddarios. Although the sixth string is a .56 gauge, the tension is quite nice and the strings feel nice. The quality is nice as well and I can play them for about 1-2 weeks, depending on the playing time. The sound is pretty bright and tight, provoking me to play djent and ola-style chugga-chugga all the time haha :D But to be honest the .59 rotosound string sounds more beefier. Generally the rotos sound a bit brighter and nastier then the daddarios. You should concider this when choosing the strings for your particular guitar. Also the .11 roto string has a little more tension then the daddario one, dunno why lol. The Daddarios are kinda easier to bend as well.

All in all, the daddarios exl117 are pretty good strings for standard D/Drop C tuning. I would suggest you to try the Rotos MA11 though.

Probably everyone's D'addario go to for drop C or D standard. Versatile string that holds up pretty well. Been usin' em for years and they've never let me down so far.

Good strings but high end sound does not last long

Ok strings. Do not brake easily on my les Paul. Tuned whole step down. Compared to ernie ball strings with similar thickness these seem to lose high end on the sound earlier(after about 4-5 hours od intensive playing). Of course while regularly cleaning the string.

Good quality as expected from Daddario

I purchased these strings in order to tune down to C# and they handle the tension required for this tuning well. I had no problems tuning lower too. The sound is a little brighter than I'm used to but this is likely due to the guitar used rather than the string.

Great, but...

I feel that these are a little too heavy for a standard 6-string guitar.

As with all D'addario strings, the tone is fantastic.

Overall cheap and good strings. I use these for both recording and live performances, tuning in drop B, and while for that tuning maybe I should try some strings that are a bit bigger still, I am good with these. The sound is good, balanced and natural, and they last more than I would have expected from uncoated strings.
I would definately recomend them.

I use these strings on a Hagstrom Viking to play downtuned blues.

Cheap enough to always have a couple extra laying around.
