DiMarzio DP122BK

47

Model P-StyleDiMarzio was the first company to produce replacement pickups for electric guitars and basses, and has maintained its position since the early 1970's with a successful blend of tradition and innovation.

The DiMarzio P delivers the same high-quality output with an even more powerful drive. This makes it ideal for modern sounds and playing techniques and, in combination with the J-model on the bridge, has become almost a classic.

Used Di marzio's before to get a washburn upto a higher standard and decided to use them again for a reversed split bass I build myself.

Few things about thse picks in general. They are loud for a passive coil, they are very balanced, no dead spots, they took those out on my washburn and I ahent found them on this new one either.

sound is warm, full and loud thus punchy. but not zingy, has also to do with where you put your pick I know. but on the Washburn I had split neck pup and jazzbar bridge, also not zingy. as in really bright tone.

they come with screws but no foam other then the packaging foma which you could use I guess, but I ordered some. good scheme and text which makes installment easy. the magnets can be adjusted on these which is great although not at all needed in both cases.

so yeah I love them, they have a good and proper bass sound if you don't look for that bright punchy tone.
they also do not really shape the sound, or they feel like they don't, it is how your bass ounds, just really natural, but this could be me.

But I like them a lot. So 5 stars minus one for the not having proper foam to go under it.

Great Precision style pickups

Great Precision style pickups

The DP122 is a great pickup to get a huge P sound from your bass. This particular model was introduced in 1977 and has been popular for almost 40 years.

I replaced the neck pickups of my Washburn with these and I was very pleased with the results; a boost in volume, more mid-range, and less hum.

These pickups can really breathe new life into your bass.

My All time favourite Pick up
Anonymous 28.04.2016
I have tried a variety of different pick ups in my P basses over the past few years before installing these pick ups in my two main gigging basses.
I use a standard Mexican P and the Dee Dee Ramone Signature P playing hard rock covers and these pickups have given them a new lease of life. The output is significantly hotter than the stock Fender, Custom Shop and EMGs I have used, but are not harsh at all to my ears and I bypass the tone pot too. Still have that classic P tone albeit fuller and louder! I play through tube amps and I can get a lovely overdriven sound at much lower volume with these pickups.
Easy to install if you know how to solder and comes with good instructions.

Only issue was that the output is so much more than other pickups it is very noticeable if you change guitars with different Pups during a gig, not the biggest problem, but if you try it you will see what I mean. I solved it by buying two sets! Not endorsed by them just love them that much. Highly recommended especially if you play Hard Rock.

Usual Thomann customer service and rapid delivery.

These replaced the original set of pups in my 1976 P Bass. First thing you notice is they are much louder/hotter than the originals. Secondly you do loose some of that woody precision bass tone BUT these are great with a valve amp. They really hit the pre hard and give a nice breakup to the sound. I did have to change my usual EQ settings to get close to my old sound but once I dialled in a nice tone I was set. Much more punch on the G & D strings than the originals too

Installation was a doddle with clear instructions.
