J
Review of Epiphone AJ220S VS
James959 16.05.2013
Why Epiphone introduced this Guitar is something of a mystery, as they already have several Slope Shoulder guitars on the market. Perhaps it was to take the place of the superb AJ500 Masterbilt which they dropped, and that was outselling the Gibson J-45 family.

They guitar is very well made and due to the wood's used, quite heavy, plus it is offered at a low price considering the quality of the woods used and build quality

By enlarging the lower boute, it gives the guitar more of a Dreadnaught sound, which is not to my taste, I much prefer the well balanced tone's from a proper slope shouldered guitar, however that is personal, the reader should try the instrument for themselves.

Action: Epiphone Guitars always had slim necks and very easy action. On the AJ220 the neck is unvarnished, having a Satin finish giving a smooth movement up and down the fretboard. However, the guitar will not fit in an standard case due to the increased length of the headstock, So I am searching for a case for my AJ220

The guitar was delivered well packaged and on time as usual from Thomman. The AJ220VS is excellent value for money, and outmatches Guitars at 4 or 5 times the cost.

Weak quality's guitar.
Anonymous 14.06.2016
I'm disappointed of quality of AJ220S: frets are buzzing, string action wasn't set. A lot of glue on neck setting place. Made in China with strange serial number: "150711xxxx". The factory is undefinable. The sound's quality is mediocre. Photos from Thomann and real guitar's view are different: there is no black strip in the centre of back side of guitar. Also neck is slantwise glued.
Very poor quality! :-(

I chose this guitar carefully, have always been a fan of Epiphone, had one many years ago. Still as good as ever -still quality woods - as ever. Precise and well built feels good looks good sounds good nice loud volume. Not quite a Gibson but it is if you correlate price and then I'm not Eric Clapton so it's fine for me. Many thanks Epiphone for your ever ongoing quality and attention to detail. a pleasant experience.Still retains that special Epiphone feel, look and sound I remember when first learning guitar many years ago - so bit of an emotional reminiscence journey for me!
Chris.
