New and yet reassuringly familiar

front of the electric guitar Fender Squier Bullet Mustang HH IMPBL

The Squier Bullet Mustang is the reincarnation of an almost-forgotten Fender classic from the 1960s. The original Mustang model was introduced in 1964 and was actually the last Fender guitar that the company's founder and namesake Leo Fender had a hand in developing, and this version is designed as an affordable guitar for beginners. In terms of looks, however, this exotic Fender model is anything but a budget instrument, and its combination of familiar shapes and unusual features gives it a unique look while the hardtail bridge ensures reliable tuning stability.

Humbucking power

While the original Fender Mustang featured a poplar body, the Squier Bullet Mustang's body is made of basswood, which makes the instrument comfortably light and keeps the price low. It also features twin humbuckers, a pickup combination not usually found on instruments from Fender and Squier. These deliver a higher output than Fender's typical single coils and are much less susceptible to hum and other unwanted noise - however, players who are looking for that "classic" Fender tone would be better off with a single coil guitar. The pickups are governed by a three-way switch that allows the pickups to be activated individually or simultaneously.

A Mustang for beginners

The Fender Squier Bullet Mustang is the perfect point of entry for aspiring electric guitarists: An instrument with the typical Fender vibe and striking looks for just over €100 that will also stand the test of time. Its shorter scale length naturally makes it ideal for players with smaller hands. Thanks to its humbucking pickups, the Mustang will also capably handle heavier musical styles, and those who want to explore Hard Rock and Metal will appreciate the Bullet Mustang as a guitar that has a high output but keeps unwanted noise to a minimum and is less prone to feedback than a single coil instrument.

About Squier

Fender is without doubt one of the most legendary guitar and amplifier manufacturers of all time. The company was founded in 1946 by its namesake Leo Fender († 1991), whose innovative ideas brought a breath of fresh air into the musical world. His Telecaster, Stratocaster, Precision Bass, and Jazz Bass are not only classics – they also continue to shape the styles of musicians in countless genres to this day. Incidentally, Squier has existed as a company since the 19th century. It supplied Fender with strings right from the start, before being acquired by the company in 1965. Fender has been producing its iconic guitar and bass models at beginner-friendly prices under the Squier brand since 1982.

A guitar that can serve many masters

Players who are just starting out on the electric guitar are often unsure of what genre they will end up pursuing in the long term, so it is good for a first guitar to be equally at home in a variety of different styles, both sonically and visually. The Squier Bullet Mustang is sure to impress with its timeless looks and modern humbucking pickup configuration, so players who choose it as their first guitar won't need to replace it in a hurry. And when the time does come to upgrade to a more premium guitar, the Bullet Mustang will still be a worthy backup instrument, whatever genre you end up choosing.

You know what you're getting.

This is not a Custom Shop Guitar. It isnt even a Classic Vibe or Affinity. But wowzers does this thing have a lot of potential. I bought this as a cheap guitar to leave at my girlfriend's place so I will always have something to practice on and this has ticked almost every box for me.

I put Harley Benton locking tuners on it right off the bat because I have 99 problems and complaining about Squier tuners will never be one. I feel I might have dodged some serious grievances in that regard.

Now, you wont believe me but these pickups are something of a hidden gem. They compare so well against my Fender Blacktop HH Strat pickups, but alas, they cannot be split without opening the tape of the pickups so I replaced them with Tonerider AlNiCo 4 humbuckers and rewired the entire thing with parts from where else, THOMANN!!

My point is, this thing is already great value out of the box (great for beginners), but it also serves as a formidable mod platform for more seasoned guitarists on a budget. My main complaint is that the frets were so unbelievably rough. Bending the strings sounded like opening the gate to an abandoned house. However, I fixed this in 30 minuted with some #1000 Goldo fret polishing rubber.

Sounds great!
blaurebell 22.05.2019
I have small hands, so I always had problems with the regular size fretboard of my old guitar. I also didn't like the sound of that old strat because it was a cheap beginner guitar of much worse quality than any beginner instrument you can buy now (bought 20 years ago). I wasn't really expecting much from this super cheap Bullet Mustang either, but wow, I was blown away by the sound and playability of it! What a great little guitar! Doesn't have that toy feel of 3/4 guitars, but it's a much better fit for my small hands than a regular size fretboard. Best thing: killer sound, I love it!

Pros:
-Holds tune even with 9s.
-Great for small hands.
-Looks awesome, good finish on the body.
-No sharp edges on the fretboard (at least for my standards ;) )
-The humbuckers sound great!!! Thought I would replace them, but no, they will stay where they are!

Cons:
-It's a cheap guitar, so the electronics could be better. The pickup selector switch is unreliable and the pots a touch crackly. I'll be replacing those.
-Bridge, saddles and tuners could use some improvements too.
-The setup could be better too. Not unplayable, nice low action, but there is definitely room for improvement in the intonation department.
-It also made me feel stupid for not buying one of these earlier, haha.

Verdict: Great little guitar, fantastic for small hands, needs some TLC to make it even better. Great platform for modding I'd say.

KJ
The reason why I recommend the Bullet Mustang.
KOREAN JAY 01.04.2023
This guitar is on Squire's cheapest model line. Mustang design guitars are less popular. The disadvantage of this guitar comes from low manufacturing costs. In other words, it is natural that cheap guitars are somewhat disappointing. I just mention the advantages of this guitar so that it is suitable for those who want to choose it.

First of all, the difference between the Bullet Mustang and the high-end Mustang style guitar is the bridge.
The Bullet Mustang has a fixed bridge. This helps maintain moderately stable tuning and playing conditions.

Second, the Bullet Mustang is very light. Only, 2.8 kg. Of these, 0.3 KG is the weight of the pickup. If you modify this with one pickup guitar, you can make it less than 2.7kg.

Third, the Mustang guitar has a 24-inch scale. This is very short. This is highly recommended for people with small hands. Also, the neck thickness is thin. Thinness is very comfortable for a person with small hands. These two points reduce the fatigue of your left hand.

In conclusion, if you're a beginner or a small-handed person who wants a lightweight, easy-to-manage guitar, the Bullet Mustang is highly recommended. In addition, it is very cheap.

Buy a Bullet Mustang.
If you order quickly, the delivery of the guitar to you will be faster.
Your hesitation will only delay the beginning of your guitar playing.
Again, buy the Bullet Mustang now.

G
A true Punk/Grunge machine
Greaser777 11.07.2019
I ordered this guitar to use it mainly for Punk Rock and it seemed to be a good option that is very cheap. I was reluctant to buy a Squier, since my first electric guitar I bought 20 years ago is a Squier affinity Strat that I never liked...but I have to say Squier made huge improvement on their guitars. Intonation was perfect, neck was set up, holds tune very well (too my big surprise) even with the factory strings (9's) after playing a little. However some features feel really cheap, you know you only paid 122 euros when you wanna switch pickups...that switch is a joke I'm afraid to break it everytime I use it. Same for the tuners, when I changed the strings 3 of them were loose as hell. But I really love the sound of that guitar, it feels so easy to play (coming from a Tele) and it's SO LIGHT ! some fret ends are a little bit too sharp for my likings but for that price what could I expect. At least they don't hurt or cut, it's just not the perfect confort, but the neck feels OK in the end. I replaced the strings with Earnie Ball cobalts 10-52 and wow It's a rock machine (what were they thinking putting 9's on a shortscale?) I fell in love with the sound of those humbuckers which are absolutely perfect for Punk, Grunge and Alternative Rock.
