A successful crossover

left-handed acoustic electric Harley Benton Custom Line CLA-15MCE LH

The Harley Benton Custom Line CLA-15MCE LH is an auditorium guitar, a body shape that represents decades of tradition and was initially developed in the first third of the twentieth century. This tradition is combined here with modern features like a cutaway and a pickup. The result: A guitar that is comfortable to play, delivers a vivid sound and, above all, boasts an eye-catching natural wood finish. The latter is thanks to the fact that this guitar is made completely from different kinds of mahogany. All of this makes it the perfect choice for players looking for something special that still comes at a budget-friendly price.

Mahogany for a warm sound

The Harley Benton Custom Line CLA-15MCE LH is constructed of sapele mahogany and a solid Gabon mahogany top. Gabon mahogany, also known as okoumé, has been used here in order to ensure that the instrument conforms to the regulations of the CITES. The combination of this wood and a relatively shallow auditorium-style body gives the guitar a precise and balanced sound with excellent emphasis on the mid frequencies, which in turn allows it to cut through the mix effectively, while the cutaway gives the player access to the upper register without spraining their hand in the process. Finally, the on-board Fishman pickup system ensures that this impressive instrument can be amplified appropriately. The CLA-15MCE LH’s Gabon mahogany neck features a glued-on pao ferro fingerboard and a comfortably slim taper with a moderate nut width of 43mm. Together with the guitar’s smaller, lighter body shape, this means that it is not only ideal for musicians with smaller hands but also sits perfectly against the player’s body.

Great for all ages

The Harley Benton Custom Line CLA-15MCE LH offers guitarists unrivalled playing comfort, making it perfect for young beginners and adults with smaller hands. What is more, this guitar offers a generous wealth of features at a budget-friendly price. The CLA-15MCE LH thus also has a lot to offer more advanced performing musicians, and it can definitely hold its own against more expensive competitors. Guitarists who mainly play electric will also be particularly attracted by this guitar’s pickup system, shallow body, and slim neck profile. And as if that were not enough, the guitar’s output socket is located in the same position as that of a Les Paul, so electric players couldn’t feel more at home on an acoustic than here.

Perfect handling for the stage

As already mentioned, the Harley Benton CLA-15MCE LH is perfect for any on-stage performance, thanks in particular to its Fishman pickup system and built-in tuner, though of course it is already loud to begin with. Surprisingly good
Jay Jay 23.03.2020
This was not only my first acoustic but also my first Harley Benton (having a number of electric guitars already). Got to say right off the bat really impressed with the quality having seen many YouTube reviews of HB products, you can never really tell what is fact from fiction so had kind of reserved expectations of what I would actually get.

Guitar came double boxed which was a big plus. I have spent a few hours on it now and getting used the bigger body shape (than and electric). I purposely went for this model due to being smaller in frame and this being a little smaller than a dreadnought. Sits comfortably so feel i made the right choice. Build quality is exceptionally good for the price point. Really don't have any negative comments at all, feels well made. Fretwork is surprisingly good, actually significantly better than my Fender MIM fret edges. Can't feel and fret ends when playing and the neck is pretty smooth. Tuners seem fine and are holding tuning just fine. I tuned day 1 on arrival, retuned slightly day 2 and it has held tuning since (about a week now). Fishman preamp works great and built in tuner is pretty much spot on with my other tuners. Picks up nicely for recording in when I don't want it mic'd.

Has a lovely warm sound, maybe loses some volume being slightly smaller? For bedroom/studio though it is absolutely fine.

For the price point and quality I am not really finding any negatives, there are other more well known brands close to this price point so you could see those in store for comparison.

Maybe the veneer isn't the nicest to look at, I would probably have gone with a lighter colour guitar out of choice but they were all bigger dreadnoughts.

Overall, pleased with my purchase and the quality of the guitar. This will be my only acoustic and expect it will last for years to come.

S
Wow. How do they do it
Sam27 25.06.2022
A guitar that cost under £200 should not be this good. But I'm pleased to say it really really is.

The finish on the guitar is flawless. The frets are really good with no sharp edges. The neck is super comfortable. Bone nut cut perfectly. The sound board has an amazing striping to it that changes in the light when you move the guitar. I've never seen this before and it's amazing.

This guitar sounds like it should cost £400 - £600. Honestly, it really is that good.

I have given 4 stars for quality because out of the box the neck was dead straight (some people are fine with this, but I prefer a little relief in the neck) and the action at the 12th fret was a bit high. Once I adjusted the neck and sanded the saddle it now plays as good as any other guitar I've played.

This guitar punches well well well above its weight. Amazing. Well done thomann and thank you.

This is a very nice guitar!
Sergiy Ivanchuk 05.11.2022
For its money, it is just perfect. And the most interesting thing is that it is an exact copy of the Sigma 000MC-15EL guitar. They are the same in everything! But this guitar is cheaper and sounds better! I held both of these over the summer and played them. I've also tried guitars from Ibanez, Cort and Fander! But Harley Barton turned out to be better than all of them in this price category! Cheaper and cheaper than competitors! Bravo!

A
Excellent guitar
Anonymous 13.04.2023
I was a little nervous on how this guitar will play and sound, and I can tell that this is the best sounding electroacoustic guitar I have. I have another guitar more expensive and this Harley Benton Custom Line CLA-15MCE LH plays and sounds much better. I am really happy. Excellent investment!
