Powerful stuff

front of the electric guitar Harley Benton S-620 TB Rock Series

If you’re on the market for a Rock and Metal guitar that delivers an amazing price-performance ratio, you owe it to yourself to check out the Harley Benton S-620 TB Rock Series. For a modest sum, you can walk away with a guitar that is real value for money despite its budget price. Its looks alone are awesome: The grain of the carved-top, ST-shape basswood body is on proud display through the translucent blue colour. A high-gloss finish is the icing on the cake and, to put the cherry on the top, the hardware – from the machine heads through to the screws of the twin humbuckers' pickup rings – is gold-plated. The two high-gain pickups pack a powerful punch, and the Floyd Rose-style tremolo sends a clear message to the competition – especially at this price point. Last but not least, the white fretboard binding ensures that this guitar delivers premium-segment looks at an entry-level price.

A pleasure to play

The Harley Benton S-620 TB Rock Series has a fingerboard made from Roseacer, which is thermally treated maple, giving it that classic rosewood feel. Mother-of-pearl-coloured dot inlays are set into the fingerboard to provide the usual orientation. The flat maple bolt-on neck with a modern C-profile is ideal for fast solo runs and features a double-action truss rod so that neck relief can be optimally adjusted. Budding lead guitarists will love the instrument's extended range, as its 24 frets open up the high register for extra playing pleasure. Incidentally, the scale length of 648mm (25.5”), which is typical for ST-type guitars, ensures excellent playability even for guitarists with long fingers.

Metal beginnings

The comparatively high output of the two humbuckers in the Harley Benton S-620 TB Rock Series firmly places it in the Rock and Metal category. Whammy-bar virtuosos will really dig the knife-edge tremolo, which allows extremely wide travel in both directions. String-bending enthusiasts will also appreciate the factory-fitted .009-.042 set, which requires very little effort to get some bold pitch variation going. Beginners looking to get into the world of Metal guitars without spending a fortune will most certainly find what they are looking for, as will advanced players looking for an affordable second guitar. But be careful: The Floyd Rose style tremolo isn't the easiest thing to handle when compared to a vintage-style vibrato or a fixed bridge.

Great metal machine

I got this a second guitar. The moment i saw the floyd rose i was hooked and wanted the guitar.

First off out of the box it wasn't set-up too well. It was in tune and worked well for 10 minutes, but very quickly went out of tune. The asthetic of the guitar was perfect, however the bridge was completely slanted toward the higher strings. After an afternoon of tinkering and tweaking i got a great setup. I stretched the strings, adjusted the bridge and locked the strings in nice and tight. NOTE: The trussrod, action and intonation was all pretty much perfect and needed no adjustments

After i setup the guitar it plays like a dream, can take extreme whammy stuff and holds tune very nicely. You can do divebombs, flutter effects, bends you name it and it holds tune nicely. NOTE: please check the nut and the saddles, mine was a bit loose.

all in all, if you don't mind setting up your guitar and want a floyd rose go for it.

UPDATE: I've owned the guitar for about four months as of writing this. It is an absolute bliss to play. It sounds wonderful and is really comfortable.
That being said the whole floyd rose is a death trap. The whammy can take a bit of abuse before going wildly out of tune. A few divebombs are alright, but be careful as you can mess the tuning very quickly. My low E went from E to C. I've also noticed that the socket for the whammy bar is low quality. If you turn the whammy bar counter clockwise you can unscrew the whole socket. I had to put a pen spring in the socket along with the whammy bar to keep the bar stiff enough to stay in one position and not loosen the whole socket. Furthermore the saddles are a nightmare, When changing strings it turned out the threads were stripped and i needed a replacement saddle. The same thing has happened again and I am currently needing a new one. The parts are cheap and very poorly made.

The guitar is great once it's up and running, but getting to that stage is hell.

IT WORTH IT!
ChristianFer92 05.01.2021
Deciding in between the red on and the blue one, i did the right choice and took this one.
The translucid blue with the gold details its just an eye candy.

Playability:
The neck feel fast. Im not a fast player, but I can see how comfortable it can be it you are a shreeder. Quite a thin feeling in the neck, yet very solid feel.

Sounds:
Clean sounds are rich. I have this guitar on B standar and the lows are delicious. The sustain its impresively "long" compared to other guitars this price range.
Distortions feels just perfect. It chugs and the dinamics that this pickups offer its just surprisingly good!

Floyd Rose can be tricky if you've never had one to intonate and tune, but it becomes a "pro" instead of a "con" after you learn how to use fully and adjust one.
Takes time but it worth it.
Otherhand you could just block the floyd rose and not think about it with a piece of wook in between the block and the guitar cavity and you problem will be solved.

The only "neg feedback" I could give its that the toggle switch feels a bit "cheap" as it wobbles a bit, but this becomes irrelevant at this price range and the fact that it does work correctly without extra sounds or interference makes it worth the price. YOu could also change it and it wont take you more than 10 minutes and medium to low soldering skills.

TLDR:
- Fast neck
- BEAUTIFUL GUITAR TO LOOK AT.
- Sounds fantastic for rock and i can testify that for metal also.
- Clean tones are rich in low and mid frequencies.
- Floyd Rose (Licenced) bridge advantage
- THE PRICE of this instrument its just too good to let it pass if you are thinking on getting one.

Recommended.

I was amazed at the quality for the price.
Robert from Myrtle Beach, USA 24.11.2020
As an old man of 66 that hasn't played a guitar since I was 20 ( I sucked back then) I have been wanting to learn to play again. This guitar caught my eye on YouTube reviews. I know a Floyd Rose in not recommended for beginners but being the ultimate tinkerer and with You Tube guides I figured what the hell. I wasn't disappointed.

I am a beginner so can't speak about technical specs but what I can say is I am very impressed by the quality, specially at only $142. I could see no defects in the finish, the frets are nice and smooth, it has a great sound on my Marshall amp.

Of course I couldn't keep my hands off the trem and totally screwed up the tuning but happy to say with a bit (OK, a lot) of tinkering it is back to normal. I love this guitar because if it was some expensive name brand I would have been hesitant to play with the trem. For $142 it is a nice guitar to take apart and play with. I learned a lot from this S-620 already.

As for playing, an inexpensive guitar in my day was junk that was almost impossible to play. This has a nice fee. It came with a very nice set up and I am able to play easily.

The Pros? $142 got me a guitar with which I am quite happy. It is pretty, plays well, sounds good. Did I mention it is only $142? ;-)

The Cons? Nothing about which I can complain.

If you are looking for an entry level guitar (and willing to learn how to set up a Floyd Rose Trem) I have to say this is a very nice one.

YL
Very nice guitar
Yorkshire Lad 30.03.2021
Received on 30/03/2021. First impressions are, nice looking guitar. The finish is flawless and looks nice in blue with the gold hardwear. The neck is also flawless and the back of the neck has a lovely smooth satin finish, without a blemish in sight. The volume and tone knobs feel very smooth and roll off nicely, better than expected at this price. The only issue that i have found, is that the volume knob protrudes above the body, but does not affect its operation in any way. The pickups are unnamed, but sound ok, just sound a bit thin on the bridge pick. The tuners look nice and seem to have a smooth resistance to them. The FR by HB trem seem to be well made and is not too stiff like some i have tried. Overall, i think for the money, this is a very good guitar. Ive now bought 5 HB guitars, and would certainly recommend this one, cam always swap out the pickups at a later date.
