Great touch and a great solution for the tension problems
Mononke 25.05.2018
I have a Höfner H500/2 Club bass (Mersey spacing pickups) and I wanted to add tapewounds on it. Due to general good reviews I first bought the Labella 760NHBB black nylon tapewound strings (050-100) especially made for the Höfner 500/1 Beatle Basses but in my opinion there were several unsatisfying aspects to them : 1. The feel of the touch was very 'plastic-like'. 2. The gauge was not hard enough to such an extent that my usual luthier had to set the action a bit higher to avoid any rattling against the frets (especially on the low E and A strings). But usually the action on a Höfner 500/2 is already not the lowest due to its design. So it became unrealistic to leave them on.
Then this set of strings entered the picture and regarding the issues mentioned it is perfect. The gauge is harder (055-115) and the feel is smoothier, almost velvet-like. The sound is way beyond my expectations. Even the bright bridge pickup which I could not really use so far (due to the fact that I yet had to find a way to make it ring) found a great complementary 'tone colour'. The lower neck pickup makes it sound very 'contrabass like' and I love it...
Höfner knows what to do when it comes down to designing basses and strings!
Now I have no excuses not to play well... which is another issue! Hahaha!

T
USELESS!!! Too thick to fit through Höfner tuners.
TrEr 06.12.2019
Updated review:

These strings are useless with Höfners but I found some use for them on another bass with standard bass tuners. They sound really, really great! By far the best sounding tape wounds I've ever used. But sadly they're useless for their intended use which is Höfner basses. So you might as well get the Pyramid tape wounds instead (Pyramid manufactures Höfner strings). The Pyramids are just a slightly different gauge but probably sound 99,9% the same at a fraction of the cost!

The problem I had with using these strings on a Höfner was that the silked part of the E+A strings was too thick too fit through the holes in the guitar style tuners on my Höfner bass. Even the D+G was a very tight fit. The thinner unsilked part at the very end of each string was too short to securely install the strings without getting far too many windings on the tuning posts.

Completely useless for Höfners but actually a great sounding set of strings for basses with standard bass tuners.

Höfner H1133BN Black Nylon Beatle Set

I have two Hofner bass guitars. One 500/1 Ignition Beatles bass (Indonesian made) and one 500/2 Club bass original from 1965 German made. I previously put on La Bella strings on the 500/1 and for the Club bass I put on these black nylon strings on my Club. That was a great improvement. They look good, but even better they sounds beautiful. So now I have two basses with distinct difference in sound quality that gives me the variation. Both have 250k control panel.
I am most delinted with the choices I made for strings to my basses.

Black Nylon Beatle set

I have bought these strings for my Höfner V63-2003 reissue bass.

They are a bit thicker than the "normal Hofner Beatle flatwounds or Pyramid flatwounds"

They are a bit "furry" to the touch and it takes a little to get used to the feel.

The sound is overwhelmingly a very deep bass sound. Even louder and deeper than the "normal flatwounds" on these basses.

I cannot say I like them more or better than the normal flatwounds. They?re just different. It depends on the sound you want to have.

It is nice to try something different. I have 3 Hofner violin basses and I can skip and compare continuously between different strings.

Up till now, I might like the normal Höfner strings over the others (black nylon and pyramids).
