Great bass - suprisingly versatile
Curtis R. 26.02.2015
Hofner have made a very good bass for the money here. It's finish is superb from top to bottom. Between the pickup switches/knobs you can go all the way from a very deep reggae tone to a more percussive rock tone. Very happy with the sound.

The overall feel of the bass is something to note. The strings are quite close together, and with it being 30" scale length, it's a completely different feel to a standard 34" bass. If you have smaller hands, or don't like the normal stretch of a long scale bass, then this may just be the bass for you. Also, if you are after a lighter bass for long gigs, it's like lifting a feather compared to other solid body basses.

The intonation is really good as well. I thought I'd have trouble getting the intonation right, but the little pieces in the bridge come out and can be re-slotted to reduce or increase each string scale length which it works very well.

All in all, I'd recommend this bass to anyone.

Surprise...
Anonymous 29.08.2014
First of all, I was victim of a mistake! I ordered a Sunburst one and got a Black! Surprise, Surprise...the first impact was pretty disappointing as I was expecting to see a Sunburst version when I open the box. But after 10 minutes looking to that beautiful black beast, I started to love it! Come on, the SB one is already Paul's signature, let's do something different then. Well, everything was going smooth then I decided to chance the strings and put on some brand new Fender flatwonds and when I was turning the tuner, the plastic bit literally crumbled in my hand, I had to take a metal one from my Fender acoustic guitar and repair. The finish on the neck it's not the best, and the tuners are from a pretty poor quality. But the sound worth every single penny. I suggest you to buy the Hofner control panel too...makes it looks better.

Nice 500/1 without the high price
BillyCWalrus 05.08.2020
Very sweet tone (I installed flatwounds); consistently keeps tune; very nice fit and finish for the price point; very lightweight; very responsive vol/tone knobs; Installed aftermarket teacup knobs because I like their feel better. It truly is a lot of fun.
