Fascinating Percussion

I bought this after watching some videos on YouTube. It is a truly beautiful instrument that is absolutely fascinating.

It is very easy to play and experiment with, there are a number of different sounds that you can get from the instrument by scratching, tapping and slapping. The scratchy sounds are contrasted by the very surprising deep bass tones

The overall sound is very very quiet and can easily be lost when playing with others, I would suggest purchasing microphones if you are serious about the instrument. Microphones can be very expensive and very difficult to find as the mic ports have a 1cm diameter.

My only criticism of the instrument is the ring that the instrument is meant to sit in. It doesn't work, the instrument is too top heavy for it to sit properly. It is not a major problem as you can play with it sitting on your legs sitting cross-legged.

For percussionists, especially tabla players and other finger played percussion this is a must. I absolutely love this instrument, it adds wonderful colour and surprising warmth to any genre of music. Beautiful.

I'm glad I bought this udu. Its sound is great but is also very quiet. I used it in the recording and i was really good. There are a lot of articulations and effects that you can create with this instrument.

Unfortunetely when I unpack the instrument I saw that in one little area the paint was crumbled.

It's a very unique and interesting instrument which I strongly recommended for percussionists who likes unusual sounds.

Udu Hadgini

This is a really lovely instrument
Acoustically, it is fairly quiet, but I haven't had a chance to mic it up yet or try it in the studio. It lends itself to softer dynamics, which make it a joy to play for hours, without fear of hurting your fingers.
It has 2 mic ports, about 8 or 9mm in diameter, filled with soft brown clay to keep sealed.
It came with a woven wicker hoop that the base can sit in.
Despite being ceramic this feels robust and sturdy and reasonably light.

schönes instrument, leider etwas leise
Anonymous 04.04.2017
