Good sound... for a line out, but the mic doesn't stay fixed under the saddle
VJT - music 06.01.2021
I bought this even though it is not the cheapest thing in the world bacause the reviewers were super excited about the sound and I didn't want to make compromises when it comes to the amplified sound of my acoustic gutar. I also wanted to use a line out type of amplification and not a condenser mic. It is more comfortable when playing a live show but also because I like to use delay and some creative reverb sounds and a looper and I don't want my breath or singing recorded or influencing the sound as would be the case with a mic. I also often tap the body of the guitar and so a magnetic pickup was not an option. The sound is very good... for a pickup system. I would still recommend saving up and going for one of the DPA clip-ons though, if you want the best amplified acoustic guitar sound. This still sounds a bit harsh when you dial in a bit of the piezo (I do have a maple back and sides on my guitar so it is pretty mid-focused so with darker wood, you might be fine) and with the mic all the way up, it sounds nice but has some feedback issues. Where I feel like L. R. Baggs dropped the ball is the way it is installed. The glue-stickers don't manage to hold the tru-mic under the saddle properly and I found out during the
recording of a live session when the sound suddenly became horrific - the tru-mic just fell off. I fixed it with double-sided tape, which works better, but it was very unpleasant to have to deal with this during a gig. Same goes for the battery pouch. A bit annoying, to be honest.

Simply The Best on Market

I have tried all the various acoustic guitar pickups and the Braggs Anthem is simply the best , by far. (i.e. the reason why Lowden uses them alone)

What a sound!
Anonymous 05.09.2016
Oh man, that pickup is just out of this world. I was searching for an acoustic pickup for quite some time to commpliment my Martin d15m. I was doing quite a reserch on pickups and than I decidet for Anthem SL. First of all it is basicly Anthem without tone knob. You can adjust tone, but you need screwdriver. The sound is really really good and pure. It is easy to install and battery lasts for ages. The only thing you must be careful about is the bracing of your guitar. I almost bought Anthem but then I realised Anthem doesn't fit in guitars with A-frame X bracing, so I went for smaller Anthem SL.
