A whole rig in one compact pedal

The Mooer GE250 offers guitarists a comprehensive package of individual devices – including modelling amp, effects processor, looper, and speaker cabinet simulations based on impulse responses (IR) – in a single floorboard unit with a cool design that is suitable for both stage and studio applications. Its unique combination of versatile features and a compact, lightweight design makes this multi-effects pedal a budget-friendly alternative to similar products from competitors. The GE250 even comes with an integrated USB audio interface for quick audio recordings and Mooer's intelligent Tone Capture function, which allows the sound of an analogue amp to be captured and stored in a digital format.

Functions and storage galore

The GE250 allows a comprehensive effects chain to be freely configured and stored using 70 amp models and over 180 different effects. Users are also provided with 32 IR-based cab sims and ten additional slots for uploading their favourite IRs. This compact floorboard modeller also comprises a looper with a stereo recording capacity of 70 seconds, a convenient tuner, comprehensive MIDI control options, and can even be used as a USB audio interface with a direct connection to a computer. Of course, the GE250 comes with all the required XLR outputs and a stereo FX loop that allow it to be integrated into a large variety of setups, and is particularly easy to program and use thanks to its intuitive layout, colour display, five colour-coded footswitches, and integrated expression pedal. All this is perfectly complemented by Mooer's proprietary editor software, which can be downloaded and installed on a computer free of charge.

All tonal options under control

The GE250 is the ideal solution for guitarists who are looking for an all-in-one multi-effects unit that is easy to use in the home studio, on stage, and for practice sessions, and immediately delivers excellent results thanks to numerous amp models, a wide variety of effects, and a particularly user-friendly design. On top of that, users can digitally capture the sound of their favourite amp thanks to the integrated Tone Capture function, which analyses the frequency response of an input signal (e.g. from the respective amp's preamp) and applies it to the modelled amp signal as a special EQ to authentically simulate the tonal characteristics of the original. Thanks to its compact dimensions and low weight, the GE250 will come into its own whenever a large and heavy amp is too much hassle to set up on a small stage.

About Mooer

Mooer is based in the Chinese city of Shenzhen and has been making products for guitarists since 2010, which include compact single pedals through to multi-effects units and compact amplifiers. The company initially produced a range of mini pedals before making perhaps its most significant breakthrough in 2016 with the sophisticated Ocean Machine delay pedal, which was designed in collaboration with Devin Townsend. Mooer's product range now also includes solutions that feature amp modelling, IR-based speaker simulation, and matching equalisers, and the company's focus remains firmly on the use of digital technology.

Everything on board

The Mooer GE250 is a universal tool that can be used for a large variety of applications: Its wide sonic palette and integrated audio interface are ideal for composing and songwriting at home, while useful features such as an AUX input for connecting a playback device, an onboard drum machine, a metronome, and a dedicated headphone output will ensure undisturbed and quiet practice sessions. But the GE250 will also prove its versatility on stage: In addition to delivering an entire signal chain from amp to miked-up cab, it will also effortlessly take on individual sub-tasks as a standalone effects processor, flexible cab simulator, or simply for playing through a real amp.

One pedal can't replace them all
Adoni C 21.12.2020
Mostly use it as an amp modeler and sound card. I play 70% clean jazz tones (with hollow-body guitar) and 30% hi-gain/distortion tones with regular electric guitar.
I almost only use it with my monitoring headphones.

Pros
- Great look and built quality
- Intuitive interface
- Lot of possibilities and parameters to achieve the desired tones
- Sounds good to me overall, especially for distorted sounds

Cons
- If you know the tone you are after it takes a while to get there (not for beginners)
- Clean, smooth tones aren't easy to crack (signal gets muddy too quickly especially with cluster chords)
- You can get nice clean tones but you need a lot of tweaking with the EQ and for some reasons only use Cabinets and not Amps
- Reverbs could have been greater
- Looper is the biggest let down. No saving of loops and no auto-start?? Surely with something so technologically advanced it should have been easy to add such basic features.

Overall I am happy, I sold all my other pedals except my looper (shame!)

Took A While....to get used to it...
Digital Donkey 25.10.2023
As someone who doesnt care too much for [modern high gain metal] tones ..more into old Sabbath and Zeppelin...buying a modeller thats really aimed at that modern metal sound ...probably didnt make much sense ....but this was an investment in tone ....as situations changed ...cranking amps and cotinually upgrading and replacing pedals ...ect ...was becoming no longer the best plan ....so an all in one modeller ...was the way to go .....I tried plugins before ...and thy,re ok ....I was tired of monitoring from the DAW ...as I am just a Home studio guy ....not a live player....I wanted direct monitoring ...from the interface instead ...

The GE250 is fantastic looking ...and heavy ...The UI is very easy to navigate ...and getting a tone is in minutes....The amp sims are very nice especially the JCM800...There are 2 major selling points for this unit ....1...The FX loop ...2 Tone Capture ....[fantastic] ...and so easy to use ...even for a crusty ol, fukkr like me ....Ive captured 2 amps on this unit ..and I am very pleased with the results.....

Now... as a Home Studio messer...mixing down a unit like this is simply not the same ...as mixing amps/preamps ...analog gear ....because youre dealing with amp sims in Hardware form ....compression and eq is your friend .....when you figure that out ....this unit is fantastic..and putting some drives thru the FXloop really gives it that analog bite ...and it takes pedals/amps really well....

Also loading the MNRS captures of real amps into the free amp slots ...is feckin class ....I mean not everyone has a warehouse full of classsic amps
lyin around ...but you can download from Mooer Audio website.....from what ive sampled so far ...theyre really good ....they have weight to them ...
The PC editor is fine ... [Tip].if you are using windows 10/11 when doing youre updates ....just make sure yore folders are kept hidden ...you can do this in File Explorer Options ...[view....Hide Folders].... as sometimes .dll files go missing ...and its a pain in the arse...having to download and re-install ...them ......but the editor is fine ....easy to download and install .....no problem editing patches ...or loading ir,s ...profiles ...ect ....

In conclusion ....this is a great unit ....and I am delighted I took a chance on it ....Took a while to get used to it ....its central now in my small studio set up ....everything goes thru it ....Boosts/Drives/Fuzz ...and even amps from time to time ....if I want to sample a real amp capture ....just load it up .....Happy Days ....and even the stock amps/cabs it comes with are top class in my opinion....

Would I recommend the GE250 to someone looking for a modeller .....absolutely ...especially if you are not too sure about the whole modeller thing ....you can still put your pedals/amps into the fxloop ...and just use ...delays/reverbs...ect and record /practice ....
