It's hard to imagine a fully-fledged amp modeller any smaller than the Mooer Prime P2, shown here in its black version. Featuring a capacity of up to 80 presets in 20 banks with access to 52 MNRS amp models, ten slots for GNR downloads, 25 cab simulations, and a further ten slots for impulse responses as well as 57 diverse effects, this pocket-sized powerhouse puts a world of musical possibilities at users' fingertips. The features don't end there, with the feather-light P2 also incorporating a drum machine, looper, and tuner as well as the ability to be used as an audio interface. Topping this all off is a built-in rechargeable lithium-ion battery that works up to 5 hours, which removes the need to lug around a bulky power supply unit. Mooer has substituted the P1's jog wheel for a 1.3" touch screen for even greater ease of use to complement the extensive controls offered by the Prime App for iOS and Android. In terms of connectivity, the Prime P2 has all bases covered with input and output jacks, a 3.5mm headphone connection, MIDI (3.5mm), USB-C, and Bluetooth 5.0.
While the new 1.3" touch screen allows quick preset changes and access to the tuner directly on the device, the full suite of features offered with the Prime P2 can be accessed via the free Prime app. By simply pairing the pedal with a smartphone or tablet via Bluetooth, users can access the Editor, Tone Library, Levels, and Help Menu sections. In addition to the comprehensive, fully editable, and storable sound selection, the Prime P2 also has a flexible metronome and 56 tempo-synchronised drum patterns. The P2 offers incredible freedom by also allowing on-the-go recording directly to a mobile device using the USB-C port. And thanks to Bluetooth playback, for example from Spotify via a smartphone, the Prime P2 is also an ideal companion for rehearsals.
The Prime P2 should not be underestimated just because of its diminutive size: With more than 120 editable amp models, speaker simulations and effect types, it has everything that guitarists and bassists need to enhance their tones. Newly created sounds can be stored at any time thanks to a generous 10 memory slots. On top of its ultra-compact design, the integrated rechargeable battery provides up to five hours of power, making the Prime P2 a great choice for musicians on the move. Its ease of use also makes this all-round package a perfect starting point for beginners to take their sounds to the next level, even on the go.
Mooer is based in the Chinese city of Shenzhen and has been making products for guitarists since 2010, which include compact single pedals through to multi-effects units and compact amplifiers. The company initially produced a range of mini pedals before making perhaps its most significant breakthrough in 2016 with the sophisticated Ocean Machine delay pedal, which was designed in collaboration with Devin Townsend. Mooer's product range now also includes solutions that feature amp modelling, IR-based speaker simulation, and matching equalisers, and the company's focus remains firmly on the use of digital technology.
The Mooer Prime P2 eliminates the need to carry a large number of different pedals and their associated power supplies by providing everything one needs in a single super-portable device. Its combination of a modelling amplifier with freely assignable effects, tuner, metronome, drum machine, and looper as well as an integrated audio interface and Bluetooth playback makes the Prime P2 an extremely practical musical companion for both mobile use and in rehearsals, in addition to being an essential tool for recording ideas. The P2 is also compatible with the Mooer F-series footswitches for hands-free jamming. With the ability to wirelessly switch between presets as well as control the looper and drum accompaniment, the P2 transforms into a powerful live performance tool. MIDI connectivity also enables CC commands from an external MIDI controller.
