Mooer has made a name for itself in recent years with innovative effects units and tools for guitar and bass that combine musical expertise with the latest cutting-edge technology. This is once again on show in the company's first standalone drum machine pedal, part of the ever-growing X2 lineup of enhanced classics. The Mooer Stereo Drummer X2 is even more powerful and flexible than its predecessor, with a total of 121 drum grooves from different genres to choose from. The user's favourite grooves and tempos can be saved in any of the 11 banks, each comprising seven rhythm slots for quick recall. A big plus of the Mooer Stereo Drummer X2 is its simple and intuitive operation. The X2 features two footswitches for rapid on/off switching, scrolling through drum grooves, and queuing up a fill using the FILL function, all of which can be handled comfortably while playing.
The Mooer Stereo Drummer X2 is a compact drum machine in a standard effect pedal format, with a 9V power supply unit included in the scope of delivery. The two inputs and outputs enable a true stereo setup, which guitarists or keyboardists can exploit in interesting ways. Depending on the situation, the two footswitches on the Mooer Stereo Drummer X2 can be used for several purposes: To start/stop, scroll through presets, set the tempo (tap tempo), and to activate a fill. The 121 groove options from 11 genres, each with 11 groove variations, can be selected using the rotary control, as can the tempo and volume of the drums. A special feature of the Mooer Stereo Drummer X2 is the internal and highly intuitive EQ, which allows the user to make quick adjustments on the fly and increase compatibility with guitar and bass amplifiers.
The Mooer Stereo Drummer X2 is first and foremost an ideal partner for practising and playing at home. Besides assisting both guitarists and bassists with lively grooves, the pedal will also serve as a source of inspiration, help instigate new ideas, and get players' creative juices flowing thanks to its library of 121 grooves to which they can play along. The Stereo Drummer X2 will also prove a great asset for guitar or bass lessons by providing reliable backing rhythms while also injecting some fun into the learning experience. With popular drum grooves from 11 different genres, the X2 has the ability to expand the musical repertoire of every guitarist and bassist.
Mooer is based in the Chinese city of Shenzhen and has been making products for guitarists since 2010, which include compact single pedals through to multi-effects units and compact amplifiers. The company initially produced a range of mini pedals before making perhaps its most significant breakthrough in 2016 with the sophisticated Ocean Machine delay pedal, which was designed in collaboration with Devin Townsend. Mooer's product range now also includes solutions that feature amp modelling, IR-based speaker simulation, and matching equalisers, and the company's focus remains firmly on the use of digital technology.
As with most Mooer products, the possibilities and flexibility of the Stereo Drummer X2 do not end with the device itself. Thanks to the USB-C connection, it can be connected to a computer or laptop. Using the free proprietary editor software for preset management and firmware updates, the possibilities of the Mooer Stereo Drummer X2 can be expanded even further. For example, the management and customisation of rhythm slots offers the user even faster access to their favourite grooves and tempos during live performances, and they can stay up to date with the latest patches by updating the Mooer Stereo Drummer X2's firmware via the USB-C port.
