Cheap, cheerful and good
tremblox 04.11.2021
I've used 5 of these on DIY project recently and have used more of them in the past. What I like is that because of the plastic construction you are not forced to tie the cable shield to the (metallic) enclosure housing. As such this let's you "float" your housing if you prefer (e.g. it provides lower noise levels). One has the choice of course to make a wired connection to the case if desired. the noise benefits.

These plastic units feel cheap, and they are. A little care is needed in soldering to them: apply too much heat for too long to the lugs and you'll start to melt the plastic that holds the lugs in place. So take care.

I don't know how these will stand up over the eons. The ones that I've had on commercial pedals and on my own have stood the test of time and I've had no intermittent contacts so they do seem to be robust. I could imagine that kicking a straight jack plug that has been inserted into this socket could cause some problems, (plastic cracking?) but I haven't experienced this yet. By the same token it probably pays not too over tighten the mounting nut as one would surely strip the plastic threads.

So treat it with care and you'll be rewarded with a vast bang for your buck.

Good Fit
Harmonic Tonic 19.10.2017
This socket was to replace one in my guitar amp which broke after a lead was tripped over and hence cracked the original.
These sockets always seem a bit light and insubstantial, but I have replaced
them a few times before and they don't really need to be built of hardened steel or
titanium as such. This was for a Roland cube and while I couldn't get it on to
the board in the same way the original socket was on, I still got it on in a
sturdy fashion which should hold for long time, assuming of course it doesn't
get yanked again! I had to use the three washers that came with it to get it to fit the amp casing and it looks well, even better in fact than the original which was all black plastic whereas this has a chrome nut.
So it works fine for me and the price is good too

Used it for a diy project, if used correctly, makes the project pretty clean.
