After every session playing the bassoon, it's essential to give it a thorough cleaning. Some sweat residue on the mechanics and wood is inevitable during play, but it's easy to remove with a soft cloth. The interior walls of the bocal, wing joint, and the right boot joint side (from the player's view) are particularly prone to condensation moisture. To dry these parts, special suede cloths with retrieval cords are used for the wing joint and boot joint, while specific bocal brushes are available for the bocal. For the bass joint and bell, a bottle brush-like swab with soft bristles is used. Periodically, cleaning the mechanics with a silver polishing cloth is recommended.
