This is a top class product. I would always use this in a mounted position as it it too heavy and cumbersome for non mounted use. I used this on a cowbell pedal mount with base drum pedal and it worked fine although I had to adjust the mounting arm to point away from the pedal to accommodate the deep shell and bracket fitting. I just turned it around. I think you would get a great sound from brushes or sticks and will be trying this next rehearsal. It fits in a Meinl tambourine bag nicely too.
