you get what you pay for

Quite pricy, but you definitely get what you pay for! To be honest, I was a bit sceptic whether this tiny box could project the lowest frequencies enough (a bass needs to FEEL like a bass, right?!) but it's simply amazing: the RALFR (read the PJB website) does the job perfectly. Band practice with 1 acoustic guitar, 1 electric guitar (not too loud), lead and background singer: volume half way was enough, so. So even for band practice (the less brutal kind of music styles) this thing could do the trick for you. The sound is just superb: crystal clear hi-fi sound (no distortion whatsoever even at the highest volume!) but still with enough of that bass oomph which I was worried about. The build quality seems to be very decent (time will tell), and the thing just seems overall extremely well engineered. The only two comments I have so far, is (1) that they should have switched the AUX and the master volume controls (I always keep turning the wrong one!) and (2) the bass oomph that you hear through the speakers does not translate to the headphones. So when using headphones you need to increase the bass EQ to get a similar bass oomph. But to summarize: I'm very impressed.

Amazing little bass combo...
stemuk01 04.06.2015
I think this is the best small bass combo I've ever heard! Great build quality and great sound quality. The EQ is very effective (a tiny amount makes a big difference). I don't think there is a better combo for home/practice use. The Phil Jones Bass Double Four packs a hell of a punch for it's size - you could probably even use it for small acoustic gigs! It also sounds fantastic with your phone/mp3 player through the aux. It does seem expensive for what it is but it is worth it - you get what you pay for!

Probably the best shoebow amplifier for bass!
Anonymous 21.12.2016
This is a great amplifier for small gigs. It sounds great in spite of the small size, and will hold it's own with a piano or a couple of guitars. It's not super loud, and would struggle with keeping up with drums. Handles the low B on 5- and 6-string basses with ease. Full body sound across the extended range of a 6-string.

Although the amp is not super-cheap, it is well worth the investment if you are looking for ultra portable sound or a high quality living room amplifier. Don't get fooled by the tiny speakers, they deliever as promised.

A
Remarkable little bass combo!
Anonymous 11.01.2016
I have spent so much time and money trying and buying small bass combos. I wanted something for home use that was clear, round and full that could be used at low to moderate volumes - this is it! I've never heard a small bass combo that sounds as good as this, it can get pretty loud too if you need. The sound quality is just amazing. It also sounds great if you play your music through it via smartphone/MP3 player or PC. The build quality is first class and it's superbly portable. This product is not designed to compete with a drummer - it's designed as a very high end practice amp. The reputation this combo has is more than justified. Very happy!
