Pyramid Nickel Classics Tradt. 012-054

34

String Set for Electric GuitarThe special aspect of these strings is the round core wire of the wound strings.

Normal strings have hexagonal (hexagonal) core wires that simplify production and reduce manufacturing costs. Round core wires, on the other hand, have to be wound with the utmost care to ensure even pressure on the nickel wire, which leads to a very long vibration of the string (sustain) and a uniform tone development.

Please note: The wrapped strings cannot be simply cut because the nickel wrapping would immediately dissolve. Therefore first make a sharp, right angled bend into the string and then trim the string behind the bend.

  • Pure nickel
  • Gauges: .012, .016, .022w, .032, .044, .054
  • Round core wire with pure nickel winding
  • Improved vibration behaviour

Wanted to like them but... disappointing
Il Grande Silencio 18.04.2020
I wanted to like these strings. They are made in Germany, which is a plus. I also like heavier gauge strings. Their customer service is great - I wrote to them because I found the low E string to be playing up and they sent me a replacement with some pyramid beer mats!

I put these on my 52 Telecaster, they sounded ok. They are reserved, but have a certain richness I suppose. Nothing very exciting, but they're decent.

First problem I encountered was with the wound G. I wasn't paying attention when I ordered and definitely didn't want a wound G string set. I hadn't tried one before, so I was interested and tried them on. Initially it seemed not as bad as I was expecting, although of course it doesn't bend the note as much as a non-wound string does.

Here's the thing. They die really quickly and when they die they reveal the shortcomings even more so. They go really really muted and the wound G sounds like it's wrapped in cotton wool. Not a good set for me.

Pros - cheap
Cons - wound G unbalances the set, short life, dull sounding

That's the sound I was looking for !
nikoskr 13.09.2021
Switching from TI swings after years of using them in my hollowbody Heritage Sweet16, was a true revelation !
I heard the sweetest highs ever (although in a scale length of 25.5' that this guitar has and using a TOM bridge) while the mids and lows have a body and a singing sustain.
TI's was muddy with a sort of piercing highs, not letting the guitar sing
I knew the Pyramid Nickel Classics .011 gauge that I'm using in my semihollow but this Pyramid Nickel Classics Tradt ( .012') set in my hollowbody did the difference. Try them out, you will not regret it !
As always excellent service from Thomann, thank you!
