Underrated USB Audio interface
markkus 13.08.2020
Roland created a sturdy (metal and high grade plastics), stable and very compatible audio interface. It works on Windows 10(with ASIO drivers from Roland), Linux (plug-n-play) and my Android phone.
Latency is lowest on my Linux RT kernel, for Windows I probably need to find the best trade-off between buffer size vs latency and very high on my Android phone (approx 300ms), but that is to be expected. Monitoring works great, both direct and with signal back via PC, although latency can become an issue.
The interface does not need any sound setup from the computer, everything is configurable from the front panel, except for the compressor modes (switch at the back of the unit). The leds are useful and practical enough for monitoring peaks, although there are only 3 modes leds off/green/red. Knobs are sturdy. Only gripe is that the on/off switch is at the back of the unit, I'd rather have it at the front or integrated in the volume knob..
The midi setup is also working and a nice addition for cable management, as I only need one USB cable to connect to the workstation.
I use it to record voice (with 48v powered condenser mic's) and guitar (both direct and via amp head with XLR and/or Line-out connection). Low/no noise on interface. I've also used the interface to rip some old cassettes and vinyl to a digital format.
The limiter/compressor is a nice feature although I really need to test out the different settings with my guitars connected. Compressor 1 according to the manual is for guitar/drum and comp2 for voice, need to check the effects on both.
I haven't tested the loop function or the analog outputs yet.

A
Excellent
Alexanderius 24.02.2020
Using it for about a year.

Pros
* The hardware design and illumination is nice
* The controls is for people who prefer buttons and knobs over the software control
* The body is solid.
* Used it to record guiitar and bass guitar (including of mic preamps usage) in studio, the sound quality are excellent,
* The software control are very minimal

Cons
* The latency with acceptable buffer size (I use USB steaming mode 5 ) is bad, about ~22/30ms, which is not acceptable for monitoring while playing via DAW. So i use direct monitoring.

S
Solid unit
Synthetic_Future 25.05.2020
I bought the Roland Rubix over the Scarlett 4i4 because it has a build in compressor that "might just safe you" when you need it.

Overall the unit is rock solid. I love the way it looks. Preamps are good... but.. don't crank them. They def. get noisy over 75%. So if you want to use it with a sm7b a CloudLifter would be a must, and even then you are probably better of with a Presonus unit.

Drivers etc work well. I run it at 10ms in Reaper most of the time so that is fine as well. Monitoring on the unit is latency free and easy to use. You can also loop between out and inputs which can be useful.

Groundlift is a nice to have as well.

Simply great interface.
Maeror 10.12.2021
After a week of using this interface, I can only say good things about it.
Firstly, right after I plugged it in the quality of headphone output is much better than on my previous Scarlett 2i2 2nd gen. The headphone output is significantly louder on my 250Ohm headphones than on Scarlett and the sound quality seems to be better and the sound clearer.
I bought this interface mainly to send audio to external gear (my case, Eurorack) and back to the interface. It does its job flawlessly, extremely easy to set up. The onboard compressors are a very nice addition, they work very well for me during recording as well as when just talking to friends.
The only downside (or not, depending on you) is the size. It's significantly larger than Scarlett 4i4 for example and cannot be powered only with USB, it needs to be powered with included power supply.
So far, can highly recommend it. Great set of features for the value.
