Stairville DDC-6 DMX Controller

Good solid simple controller does what it says on the tin, & like most of the positive reviews I would agree. like most things theses days it's made in China.
My main gripe with this is if you run it on batteries & forget the mains unit(or it's not practical to use), more than likely the battery will be flat because the power rocker switch is dead easy to switch on either when handling or storing. You then have 4 fiddly little screws to undo with a screw driver to access the battery and then when putting the cover back on, a further fiddly time consuming job realigning the metal base plate with the screw holes(that's if you don't loose the screws) which after a few times you'll strip the threads. All this usually when your in a hurry in a dimly lit stage area. Also a common problem with nearly all thomann products that come from Germany to UK is the europlug which means you either have to rewire with a UK plug or put a bulky plug adapter on it. I think a slide switch & a battery compartment door would have much improved this product. It comes with a DMX cable which is a nice thought but at only a metre long it's pretty useless in most situations. It might have been handy if the controller could be mounted on a pole.
Still the Germans did win the football world cup so they get some thing right.

Simple and easy to use
Jayson E 02.01.2020
I got this controller as an item to rent out when someone only wants basic control instead of a PC wing solution. Perfect for par cans, strobe lights, fog FX, anything that is just a nice static piece. Faders move smoothly and the rubber feet on the bottom keep it in place. I bought a Pelican 1200 case to transport it safely. It cost more than the controller itself!

The only thing I don't like is the power delivery. I really wish they would have put an IEC port on the back of it and put the 120-240v to 9v transformer inside the unit instead of having a wall wart adapter. Having to keep track of that is much more annoying than using one of the hundreds of IECs I have laying around. That being said, I knew this from the pictures before buying, so I'm not upset.

The battery is a little bit of a pain to get to, but I really only put it in there for emergency situations. I plan to use the power adapter whenever possible.

All-in-all, I got exactly what I expected and it works flawlessly! Will probably purchase the 12-channel version down the road.

Safe for young operators
Warren J. 19.11.2013
I have now purchased 3 of these little controllers, so that in itself is a high recommendation.
I gave one of these to the local primary school to operate a series of LED light panels. Even the children (aged 5 to 11) found it easy to use and extremely safe. I like the fact that the unit contains its own power supply (battery) so no powerpoint and plug required near the operator. Note though that an external power adaptor is supplied should you prefer. The battery lasts a long time but I'm a little dissapointed that to change the battery the case has to be unscrewed rather than just a sliding compartment door, but again this adds to the safety when operated by minors.
All the controls moved fluidly and the master control is a boon. They feels sturdy and all are still working perfectly after a number of years use. I prefer to use a number of these rather than a more complicated lighting desk.

it's plenty for that buck

it just works, without hassle. I have a very modest setup: a dance school hall with six spots aiming at the ceiling for ambient lighting. I needed a very simple way to dim them individually, that any dance teacher could understand in a second, and that product is exactly it.

I broke a slider's cap by dropping it from a table to the ground, which is not surprising and didn't affect its functionality, but that is why I'm only giving it 4/5 stars for quality. Maybe that's a little harsh though.
