Good instrument mic
JensWel 21.10.2022
Good for instruments, acoustic guitars, citars, oud's, hand-drums, percussion. Doesnt fit my voice, but might be good for you ? The price is low enough to be a keeper for acc instruments :) Recommended

Sounding good.
Peter R. 438 12.12.2021
A good quality sound from my system with this mic, leaves previous & expensive dynamic mics for rehearsals.
I have this "almost exact" mic made by Suzuki, same "small diaphragm" supported very delicately, this mic I got back in 2002 and has worked hard since then, proving this same/similar mic virtually indestructible..
"Years later", this mb 58 beta is still my "go to" mic when using my bigger PA, I love the bass cut, it brings out a certain part of my voice which I like and stops my lower "old man" voice tones, also stops "stage rumble" if my speakers are on stage, my bigger PA has very good bass responce from my guitar low E and A strings, filling this sound area nicely, the mb 78 beta cut switch keeps my voice to the "mid/high" PA speakers.
So I just got my second mb 78 beta because I know what I want to hear.

Actually amazing...

Concidering the price - you have to put 2-3 times this amount to get an equal mic with a Name on it. Used in recording, live, vocal, instrument... everything works!

Really fab sound, less muddy than the ‘big’ name equivalent in my opinion. Other than this nothing between them, there is bound to be 58 reasons in all as to why this microphone is a shrewd buy at this price point. Thoman products in general are fab value, this is no exception. Solid build and great case. No on off switch, but hey ho.
Vocals or cabinet capture no probs, reliable.

Superb sounding microphone
Adrian3174 09.12.2015
I bought this to compliment my existing range of microphones and I do have mixed feelings about it. I personally prefer the condenser sound to that of an SM58 dynamic and in this respect the MB78 Beta doesn't disappoint. The microphone comes with a nice foam filled plastic carry case to store it in which should protect it from knocks in transit. This microphone sounds absolutely superb, it has a well extended response and doesn't have so much of an upper midrange hump in the frequency response. Handling noise is low and resistance to feedback is good. The switchable low cut filter is a plus point and as the switch is recessed it makes it virtually impossible to change the filter setting in error. The build quality of the microphone is ok but the microphone is quite light in comparison to an SM58. It doesn't feel 'substantial' which is a shame given it's audio performance. The microphone capsule is extremely small and sits on a plastic mount. If the grille on this microphone were to get damaged due to dropping it I would fully expect the mount to break as the microphone capsule and the mount both look quite fragile.

In conclusion.. A great sounding microphone, unfortunately it feels 'too light' and unsubstantial. It would not stand up to rough handling but overall the sound quality has won me over.

Very impressed by this budget mic
Auraboy 18.05.2013
Bought for a female vocalist for live work. Has since moved up to a shure beta 87 of which I assume this is a good copy. For a cheaper option this has an excellent natural response and suits female vocals especially. It is not going to replace a high end microphone in your set up but if you need a spare or have a limited budget this is an excellent choice and most people won't hear the subtle differences for a more expensive option.
