I have been looking for a case to transport long Par 56 cans and Par64 LED's for some time. All the cases I have looked at are just a touch to small for the large Par 56 can's. I decided to try this case from Thomann, it looked as if it may just be large enough to take the cans, which it does with ease.
The inside base of the case is lined with a protective foam, so the cans can sit nicely protected and stable. The devisions make sure all 8 of the cans do not fall over in transport and get damaged.
Quality of the build is good, if a little flimsy. I noted that the dividers may need to have small brackets added to stiffen up the top sections. The 7mm plywood has a laminated brown finish which looks as if it will stand up to a little abuse.
Overall Thormann has come up with a good compromise between build quality and finished weight. Using a thicker plywood would have made the case much stiffer but added a lot of weight.
As this is a fairly big case I was surprised that I could lift it (all be it empty) out of it's packing box. When loaded with the lights it is still manageable, and the handles make it easy to move around and load. I decided not to fit wheels, as these would make stacking the case much harder, instead I use a trolly board if I need to move the case over long distances.
All the fittings are nicely cut into the plywood and all the rivets finished off well. I liked the way the quality ball corners will help the case stack in storage.
I have already decided to buy more of these cases to protect and transport my other sound and lighting gear.
