Phase like the 70s!

With the Mutation Phasor II, US manufacturer Warm Audio has created an all-analogue phase shift pedal that combines the authentic sound and vibe of one of the most desirable phasers of the 1970s at an affordable price. True to the illustrious original, the Mutation Phasor II gives players the whole palette of sounds from that era, from psychedelic swirls to choppy Funk sounds, and its six-stage, electro-optical design delivers a thicker sound and greater depth than other, more traditional phaser designs. The Mutation Phasor II's control interface leans heavily on that of the original and features controls for rate, depth, and feedback, which give the player immense creative scope to discover new sonic territory. What is more, the Mutation Phasor II can also be used to great effect with other instruments.

Legendary sounds

To capture the authentic sounds of the 1970s as closely as possible, Warm Audio has designed the Mutation Phasor II with premium components, and its three rotary controls have a sufficiently wide and detailed range of adjustment to allow the player to dial in their desired sound with great detail and precision. The pedal's phasing rate can be adjusted from 0.1Hz to 18Hz via the Rate knob, thus giving the player everything from extremely slow sweeps to a high-speed "wobble" reminiscent of Leslie cabinets and ring modulators. The Depth knob in turn adjusts the extent of the phasing sweep: Turning it up adds width to the frequency range of the effect (20Hz to 20kHz) resulting in higher highs and lower lows. Finally, the Feedback knob allows a more intense phasing sound to be achieved, which is especially noticeable when the pedal is set for slower phase sweeps, and delivers a more nasal, mid-focused tone when turned up.

Vintage vibe without busting the bank

Authentic 70s-style phaser sounds have carved a firm place for themselves in popular music, but the original effects units used to create them now fetch dizzying prices on the second-hand market. Fans of those sounds can now rejoice though, because the Warm Audio Mutation Phasor II serves up an authentic reproduction of those sounds at an affordable price. The Mutation Phasor II is primarily designed for use with electric guitar, and its eyecatching design, which includes a housing that is slightly larger than that of most standard pedals, is sure to provide an optical upgrade to any pedalboard. As mentioned above, however, this pedal is also eminently suited to use with other instruments, which include bass guitars, electric pianos, and synthesizers, so musicians who like to get experimental and create other-worldly soundscapes using effects will find the Warm Audio Mutation Phasor II to be the ideal companion.

About Warm Audio

Warm Audio is a company founded in 2011 which has made it its mission to offer the highest quality studio equipment at the most affordable prices possible. The focus is on remakes of classic studio standards, whose circuits are reinterpreted, often freely and with flair. The Americans firm's product range includes their own variants of the Urei 1176 and the Teletronix LA-2A compressor, a Pultec replica, and a number of different microphones and preamps inspired by the corresponding legendary devices from the analogue era.

One step beyond

The musical legacy of the 1970s includes a wealth of psychedelic and funky musical genres, and that is where the Warm Audio Mutation Phasor II is at home. The vintage original on which it is based was put to creative use not only during the 70s but during the decades that followed, in genres like 80s Hair Metal and 90s Grunge as well as in the Alternative genres that came to prominence in the early 2000s, with players discovering more and more new soundscapes as the level of guitar distortion increased. Like its vintage ancestor, the Warm Audio Mutation Phasor II is ready to go whenever distinctive sounds and sonic experimentation are the order of the day, whether it is for guitar, bass, or synth-style instruments.
