Really clean and detailed sound

I bought them for my home recording studio mainly to be used for mixing purposes and it was good decision.

They are isolating all noises around really well, I'm able to listen to music on low volume and I can still hear everything clearly.
At the same time they still breathe which makes them one of the most comfortable headphones in that price range, their size is good and they fit perfectly on ears, default pads work nice (additional velvet pads are included for those who need something with softer touch).

I use them with coiled cable (it's also included) which allows me to keep my workplace out of unneeded additional cables lying around.

Overall quality is good - they are made out of durable materials (unintentionally dropped them & pulled the cable few times and I can say that it's impossible to destroy them during normal work)

If you are looking for good studio headphones - you are in the right place.

Beware of the impedance

I have to be honest... I'm an AKG guy. I love their headphones since a decade or so. I did try Sennheiser, Audio Technica and other "classic" but always came back to AKG. It might be ear-dependent : I spent a lot of time listening to various style and mixing with the MKII series. Maybe my ears have got used to ? Plus, as a bass player, I don't expect bass / sub frequencies to be super pumped but "at the right place" and those headphones don't fail to kick them in the mix where they belong. It's all about BALANCE. Take that Bose and Beats.

The only reason I bought a new one is because of the the previous generation of "headset" (or headband, whatever you call it) : it used to be stiffer so it cracked here and there before splitting in two after 5 years of intensive use. The new headset is softer and looked like it'll last longer.

The only downfall : the output impedance doesn't match the industry standard. That's where Sennheiser models shine brighter. It's a bit frustrating because it sounds like AKG headphones fail to show their full potential.

So turn the knobs up to 11 and don't forget those precious Lemmy's words of wisdom : if it's too loud, you're too old !

Depends what you want.

These headphones are very good.
They have a neutral sound and make very decent monitors.
They plastic is light but durable and not cheap feeling. I've had headphones from other expensive brands with much more substantial plastics that broke over time. I'm pretty sure I could play football with these and not worry about them breaking (you can twist them into a ball).
The drivers aren't overly powerful so sound levels can be lower than some other headphone options and people will know what your listening to as they dont keep in all the sound. But that being said, They are loud enough for purpose, and dont leak as much as some other options from AKG. I know I will have these a very long time.
Pros
Durable, great sound. (neutral) Great for studio/home.
Cons
People will hear to a degree what you hear (so prob not best for public transport).

A
Great for monitoring
Anonymous 19.07.2015
I use the AKG K-271 MKII headphones with my Yamaha THR10 amp while playing quitar at home for not to disturb my family. For this kind of use the headphones are excellent. As the headphones have basicly a flat eq curve from low frequencies to the high treble, they are very suitable for monitoring ? for which I used them also in my past occupation in radio some time ago. Actually I feel that with these headphone I can distinguish the effect of minor amp adjustments more precisely than from the loudspeaker of the small amp itself.

If you are looking to buy them for hifi use, outside of classical music you may be disappointed to the non-amplified base, but in classical music you would value the preciseness of these headphones.

The are so comfortable on your head that one easily forgets any recommendation for not to listen with headphones on for more that an hour a day, one simply forgets that the headphones are there. The cord length was enough, though to increase freedom of movement I also purchased an extension cord.

The package had also replacement ear pads, so I expect to be using these for a long time.

Definitely a good purchase for a monitoring purpose.
