I ordered this wireless mic set for DJing and quiz hosting purposes.
I've had experience with AKG WMS 40 Mini series previously, that's why I decided to give PW45 wireless set a shot.
AKG PW45 doesn't have the issue of extra noises of microphone handling which is known to WMS 40 mini. Overall, the quality of PW45 seems to be much better and WMS40 mini, it doesn't feel as cheap material wise as the latter.
Unfortunately for me, I'm kind of disappointed with my purchase.
I'll name the pros and cons below:
PROS:
+ Sound quality is very good
+ The quality of the microphone is good, feels good in your hand.
+ 4 channel option
+ Easy set up
+ Good wireless range
CONS:
- ON/OFF switch alone will ruin your evening, because turning it on and off is such an annoying endeavour. Trust me, you will have a sore thumb trying to turn it on and off even if you use two hands. In my line of work, this just doesn't meet my standards and is causing me too much headache.
- When you turn on the mic, it takes 4-5 seconds to actually start working and transmitting signal to the receiver, so that's an another BIG issue, that's really bothering me personally.
- The volume knob on the wireless receiver seems kind of wobbly/jiggly, seems like it would break apart anytime (WMS40 mini volume knob is remarkably better, because it feels like it's supposed to).
In a nutshell:
If you need to turn on and off the mic multiple times in your event, this microphone is definitely not for you. If you don't mind having this mic on for 2-4 hours continuously, then this shouldn't be a problem, go for it.
I assume AKG wants to make sure the mic doesn't turn on/off by accident, that's why they have made the on/off switch so hard to lift up and down, go figure.
