The Orange monster.

The Hydrasynth has truly impressed me. It checks every box and has earned a unique place in my collection—not once, but twice! Owning the desktop version already, I couldn't resist adding another.

As a devoted fan of classic 90s sounds, particularly the iconic tones of the JP-8080, the Hydrasynth was an obvious choice. It not only captures the spirit of those legendary sounds but also ventures far beyond. Dreamy, atmospheric pads with incredible depth? It excels. Beautiful, expressive keys? Absolutely. Whatever your sonic needs, this synth delivers.

Its versatility and ease of use are standouts. Creating patches from scratch is intuitive, even for newcomers to sound design. Plus, the build quality is superb—solid, reliable, and ready to handle whatever you throw at it.

Enorm vielseitiger, überraschend zugänglicher Synthesizer

Ich habe bisher fast nur mit Soft-Synths gearbeitet und mir den Hydrasynth als ersten Hardware-Synthesitzer gegönnt. Der Synthesizer ist sehr handlich und portabel. Das Plastikgehäuse und die Knöpfe machen einen robusten, wertigen Eindruck. Ich mag die orange Farbe, aber in Schwarz sieht der Synthesizer bestimmt klassischer aus.
Der Einstieg ins Sounddesign war kein Problem; der Hydrasynth bietet ein überraschend logisches Bedienungskonzept, das zum Herumschrauben einlädt. Man verbringt rasch Stunden mit dem Ausprobieren neuer Klänge. Fast alles lässt sich mit allem modulieren und verbinden; es nimmt kein Ende! Und die Polytouch-Tastatur ist - gemessen an ihrer Grösse - der Hammer und lässt sich im Ansprechen anpassen.
Die Verbindung mit meiner DAW (Logic Pro und Studio One) war problemlos über USB-MIDI möglich. Im System-Setup musste ich dafür nur den Übertragunsmodus von NRPN auf CC umstellen, um den Synthesizer über MIDI-Learn auch zum Steuern von einigen DAW-Funktionen nutzen zu können.
Noch nicht gross erkundet habe ich bislang den Arpeggiator. Und ein Sequenzer ist gar nicht an Bord; allerdings kann man sich da teilweise mit dem Step-Modus der LFO's behelfen, die bis zu 64 programmierbare Tonfolgen ermöglichen.
Nachdem ich den Hydrasynth Explorer nun einige Wochen besitze, hadere ich einzig mit dem Umstand, dass der grössere Hydrasynth Keyboard mehr Bedienelemente und ein grösseres Display besitzt. Hätte ich mehr Platz, wäre das die bessere Wahl für mich gewesen. Man muss den kleinen Bildschirm schon arg oft umblättern, um alle Parameter bedienen zu können. Zudem wäre die Polytouch-Tastatur in Vollgrösse sicher noch um einiges feiner zu spielen…
