The compact, USB-powered Revolution 2x2 audio interface developed by the US manufacturer Black Lion Audio offers technical features and a high-quality sound that can otherwise only be found in more expensive products. The interface has a maximum resolution of 24 bit/192kHz and also features the extremely precise, proprietary Macro MMC clock for accurate AD/DA conversion. What is more, the Revolution 2x2 is equipped with PG-i technology, which filters out adverse influences via the USB power supply. In addition to two jack/XLR combo inputs, it offers two balanced monitor outputs in 6.3mm jack format, as well as a headphone output that can be adjusted separately. Also included in the scope of delivery are an extensive software package and two USB cables.
The Black Lion Audio Revolution 2x2 has two jack/XLR combo inputs, both of which can also be used as instrument inputs (Hi-Z), while phantom power (+48V) can be switched on for both inputs globally. The unit is also equipped with a so-called direct control, which can be used to mix the inputs and monitor without latency. However, the mono button is not intended for mono summing of the monitor outputs, but applies exclusively to the direct monitoring. This means that if the mono button is deactivated and the control is set all the way to the left, the input signals are played back on the left and right. When activated, the mono button ensures that the input signals are played back in the centre, as is preferable with a single-channel signal.
The portable Revolution 2x2 delivers a compelling performance that allows users to record high-quality audio tracks. While some competitors offer more channels for the same price, the Revolution 2x2 provides a more transparent, detailed sound, which is mainly thanks to the superior components and the consistent decoupling of the AD/DA converters. This interface additionally features a sturdy design, which is a real advantage when it comes to recording while travelling. Musicians, singers, and producers who want to be on the safe side in terms of sound, both in their home studio and on the road, will find a suitable audio interface with the Revolution 2x2.
Black Lion Audio is a US company from Chicago that has become known for the modification of industry-renowned microphone preamplifiers, digital-to-analogue converters, and signal processors. However, the manufacturer's portfolio also includes innovations such as the PG-1 Type F Power Conditioner, which was developed completely in-house. The Black Lion Audio team has always taken great care to only produce devices with a high standard of sound and workmanship, which has earned the manufacturer an international reputation within the audio industry. With the 2021 release of the Revolution 2x2, Black Lion Audio also expanded its existing product range with a compact audio interface, which brought to bear all of the manufacturer’s accumulated experience and expertise.
The Black Lion Audio Revolution 2x2's eight-segment LED level indicator provides output metering for the connected monitor speakers and is therefore not suitable for levelling the input signals. Instead, input metering is provided by simple, two-colour LEDs that switch from green to red when overloaded. Thanks to the two combined inputs, vocals and an instrument can be recorded simultaneously. As a result of the direct monitoring, the incoming signals can be monitored with zero latency during recording, while the direct control creates the required mix between the input signal and DAW playback.
