My favorite Mandolin strings
Anonymous 24.01.2016
I am playing mandolin professional and i need good strings that last for a while and will give a great and a bright tone. I have A style and F style mandolins and I used many types of strings like : Elixir, Martin, Thomastik, GHS and other. The Daddario EJ74 are my all time favorite. Great quality, crisp and balanced sound. Fits great to my style.
Please take care that there are 2 types of strings. The ones with loop end and those with ball ens (like electric guitar) so order what is fits your instruments.
I will keep use the Daddario EJ74 for my mandolins and highly recommend them!

MS
Great strings, if a bit pricey

So my mando luthier put these on my Weber Gallatin after setting it up and they do sound great. They've been on there for several months now. I use GHS fast fret before and after playing, which I believe has also contributed to their logevity.

They still play smooth, though the tone is of course completely dead. If I were to gig with the strings or record I would change them more often. If and when that becomes the case I will likely look for a cheaper alternative.

But for casual (what's casual? I play 1-2 hours a day) home use and with a little care they remain playable for quite a long time, surprisingly.

Now if only Harley Benton would start producing a cheaper coated alternative.....

The Industry Standard for a reason

Well not much to say, these strings kick butt. Sound great for pretty much anything on any mandolin I've put them on.

Quality is top notch, sound is bright and rings beautifully. Nice balance across the strings.

Watch out if you have chronic acid hands though as if you are playing 2-3 hour gigs in the summer they will be dead after one or two shows. Fast fret will get you a third show with good tone (though less brilliant) then it's time to restring.
