They sound quite good, powerfull and quite kickass for flatwounds. But! they are quite flexible (and still heavy) and it has been really difficult to achieve a low action on my bass without having noises. I actually didn't achieve a confortable action so i'm not using them any more. Maybe in other basses they work better...

The best flats for me
aLion 17.03.2019
I tested a lot of different flats, but I find these the best for me; silky and soft feel, smooth playability, perfect flex (round core), warm and round sound... I have them on most of my basses.

Great overall tone, built to last
Anonymous 10.09.2015
Had these strings a year now, on a fretless. Still sound great, they were quite bright for a while but mellowed out to a nice mid thump. They feel smooth but not greasy like some of the other flats on the market.
Will certainly be keeping these on for a long time.
Unfortunately there was an error. Please try again later.

Great strings for fretless
Anonymous 09.01.2016
I bought those strings for my 5 string fretless (17mm string spacing, alder body+walnut top and rosewood fingerboard). I chose for the flatwounds because i do not want my rosewood fingerboard be eaten by roundwounds. String were packed in separate, treated envelopes. They feel very smooth under the fingers and they don't seem to be "sticky". Also they have quite nice shine on them which looks pleasant to my eye. Those strings are quite bright for flatwounds but i think can work very well for many styles of music. I think they are nice compromise between regular flatwounds and roundwounds. You can get some "mwah" from them. Especially B string sounds really good - notes are very clear and i love the deep sounds (especially if you tune it down step to Bb - which is very common in many gospel songs). I play some gospel and those strings seem to fit very well to this style of music. I will for sure keep on exploring other DR strings as i found that this company makes very good products. I am quite happy with HIFL. Just give your strings at least a day to adjust - in the beginning they may not sound so good but after a day or two you will hear the real sound.
