I had a spector bass with passive EMG pickups for years. Then after hum issues in a certain venue I decided to upgrade to an active pickups and preamp. As I had 4 pots with the previous controls there actually wasn't a lot of choice in which preamp to get. The BQC was fairly painless to install...took about an hour and a half. I opted for the double 9V battery and it only *just* fitted in the control cavity. The sound is like night and day however, much more open than the passive pickup and the signal level is enormous. I had a fishman DI previously to improve the old sound of the passive pickups, by the BQC gives so much control I'm considering selling it.

Fantastic system!

I have a lot of EMG pickups installed in many of my basses.
What can I say, installing the preamp system with the same pickups is a breeze.
Soundwise is very modern. It also depends on which pickups you use, but the strength and clear sounds this preamp gives is really nice.
Also the tonal variation you can get from the BQC system is wide and flexible.
It's an active system. If you like simple things and passive systems, stay away from this, but if you're on the active side and love variation, this is definitely for you ;)

I've been using EMG products for years now and have never had a problem. I am very proficient with a soldering iron so have no real need for the solder free connections. However they do make installation a piece of cake.
I installed the system on a Fender precision deluxe. Sounded fantastic from the off.

EMG BQC System preamp
Anonymous 16.07.2014
Bought this to pop in my Spector Euro to replace a trimpot Tonepump pre. I wanted some control over the mid levels and a mid sweep capability. It was either this or an Aguilar so I figured that as the Spector had EMG pickups it should be a good match.
It was a tight fit to install as I also converted to 18v while I was at it so needed an extra battery in the cavity.
Sound wise its great - just enough bas on tap, mids are good and the dip switches controlling the treble response are useful.
The knobs feel a bit cheap and lightweight though that's the only niggle.
