From the inventor of guitar strings

Strings made by Ernie Ball - the proverbial icing on the cake for a powerful sound with plenty of sustain. Since the early 1960s, the US company has been making strings for almost every stringed instrument. This vast wealth of experience is clearly demonstrated in every product, and it is not by chance that Ernie Ball remains one of the market's leading manufacturers to this day. The product range has expanded immensely over the course of several decades and now includes many accessories such as effect pedals, cables, straps, and high-quality picks alongside the company's extensive selection of strings. However, Ernie Ball's core business is and remains the production of all manner of strings, which set standards in terms of sound, tuning stability, and durability - and the company is still based in Indio, California.

Ernie Ball 2225 String Set For Guitar

The classic in the product portfolio

The 2225 Extra Slinky strings are one of the most classic products in Ernie Ball's range and have been a top seller for decades, used by many international stars. The wound strings feature a hexagonal steel core beneath nickel-plated steel windings. The plain strings, on the other hand, are made from a specially hardened and tin-plated high-tensile carbon steel. With gauges of .008, .011, .014, .022, .030, and .038, the 2225 Extra Slinky strings offer top-notch performance for lead guitarists in particular and excel with a rich and warm sound that makes them especially suitable for Jazz as well as for Metal.

Traditionally reliable

Thanks to its long playing life, loud and well-balanced sound, precise intonation, and high tuning stability from the moment the strings are put on, the 2225 Extra Slinky string set is particularly recommended as a reliable companion for ambitious guitarists who want great playability, for example when playing solos, but still don't want to go without a powerful sound for chunky riffs and precise chord work. The combined power of over 50 years of experience in string development at Ernie Ball also makes the 2225 Extra Slinky strings the first choice for electric guitars - and at a very fair price.

About Ernie Ball

The Ernie Ball company was named after its founder and has its headquarters in San Luis Opisbo, California. Being a guitarist himself, Ernie Ball knew their needs very well. A major problem for him in the 1950s and 1960s was the lack of high-quality guitar and bass strings. In 1962, Ernie Ball invented the “Slinky”, a very flexible and therefore much more comfortable string, which also sounded better and was more durable. He specifically brought individual string gauges onto the market for a young clientele and touring musicians. The company’s success was unstoppable, and today Ernie Ball is the world's largest manufacturer of guitar and bass strings. Over the years, the range has expanded and now includes accessories such as cables, picks, straps, etc. Ernie Ball is also known in connection with the instrument manufacturer Music Man, which the company bought in 1984, but which continues to operate as an independent brand.

From Funk to Metal

The Ernie Ball 2225 Extra Slinky string set offers a rich, balanced sound that brings out the best in your electric guitar. The strings' precise intonation means that chords, riffs, and solos will always sound bright and clear anywhere on the fingerboard. In addition, these strings deliver excellent tuning stability as well as a direct tonal response, all of which will be helpful in getting your timing as precise as possible. Whether you are playing powerful high-gain riffs, crystal-clear clean parts, or expressive solos, the Ernie Ball 2225 Extra Slinky strings offer the perfect balance between playing feel, durability, and a full sound.

Freshly sealed, an all-time classic!

I have been using these gauge 8 strings for the past twenty years, and the packet that Thomann sent me are as good as any.

I recommend the lighter gauge to those that want more tonal control over their bends. Being very light, these strings allow for easy bends that might be less comfortable on thicker strings. I prefer a lighter touch, and these strings allow me to perform microtonal bends with high accuracy.

The thin nature of the bass strings also provide a much tighter low end, making crunchier sounds feel less muddy, and allow the guitar to ring out more, due to the lower tension.

Best. Strings. Ever.

Tired of killing your hands trying to reach those higher bends?
Feel like there's something lacking in your bottom end?

BUY THESE STRINGS!

Best-kept secret of the 60's and '70s guitar gods. Jimi Hendrix, Jimmy Page, Chuck Berry... all these guys used 8's! Eddie Van Halen used 9's but tuned down a half step, the equivalent of 8's in standard tuning).

Other light gauge string aficionados: Zappa, Toni Iommi, Brian May, B.B. King, Frampton, Malmsteen, Vai, Satriani, Billy Gibbons... the list goes on.

Seriously, buy these strings.

MJ
My definitive choice
Meco Jones 26.08.2014
These strings feature the lighter gauge in Ernie Ball's string catalogue, but show the same qualities of the heavier ones. Despite being really thin (the high E is only 008) they are loud enough to any kind of music, and the gauge is very well balanced from the first to the sixt string, allowing natural playing and good feel. Brilliant sounding, the quality of materials they're made of allows easy and almost extreme bending with no risk of break even with the thinner string: I think I broke just a couple in years, and I guess it was up to a sharp edged hole in the tuning key. Even after a long time, they never sound "muddy", they just sound "warmer". If you only care cleaning them with a cotton rag after every session (like any other set of strings) they will last very very long. Great value for the price.

Ernie Ball has never failed me
nikreiman 19.01.2022
I've been playing Ernie Balls for years, and the quality has always remained consistently good. I appreciate that they haven't changed their formula in decades -- it's a product that is well-made with no "surprises" caused from a change in manufacturing process etc. The strings feel great, are very durable, and have a crisp and clear sound.
