A classic Rock bass on a budget

Harley Benton Bass

“TB”-style basses have always held a fascination all their own, and the Harley Benton TB-70 now gives players an affordable way to get their hands on one of these distinctive instruments. This bass combines an okoumé body with a mahogany neck and employs the same “reverse-style” body shape as the illustrious original, albeit with a set neck in place of the latter’s neck-through-body construction. Nevertheless, the TB-70 still provides the same gritty playing feel and rich, full-sounding tone that fans of the TB design have come to expect, and the bass’s sonic palette is expanded even further by its active electronics. Harley Benton’s commitment to ensuring reliability and ease of use is also clearly displayed by this bass’s deluxe hardware, which includes a floating die-cast bridge and a set of sealed machine heads.

Power meets versatility

In the years since the design’s inception, TB-style basses have been associated with bass luminaries like The Who’s John Entwistle and Mötley Crüe’s low-end maestro Nikki Sixx, and the Harley Benton TB-70 is the perfect choice for players on a budget who want to join this illustrious roster. It delivers a full and punchy sound that is ideal for Rock music and related styles and will sit perfectly in the mix when playing with a band, but the two Roswell GB4 mini-humbuckers and effective two-band EQ with dedicated controls for bass and treble as well as a master volume control with a push-pull function for switching between active and passive modes also provide more than enough different options for players to individually sculpt their tone, ensuring that this bass is by no means restricted to just one musical genre.

For those about to rock…

Today, many basses that are specifically designed for heavier styles of music are very expensive to buy, but that doesn’t have to mean that players without a fortune to spend cannot also enjoy the exciting sounds that these instruments offer. True to Harley Benton’s reputation for providing high-quality instruments at an affordable price point, the TB-70 gives Rock, Hard Rock, and Metal bassists on a budget just what they are looking for, and it is particularly ideal for beginners who are either just starting out on the instrument or already up on stage with a band.

About Harley Benton

Since 1998, the Harley Benton brand has been catering for the needs of numerous guitarists and bassists. In addition to an extensive range of stringed instruments, Thomann's house brand also offers a wide choice of amplifiers, speakers, effect pedals, and other accessories. In total, the range includes over 1,500 products. Built by established names in the industry, all Harley Benton products combine quality and reliability at attractive and affordable prices. The continuous expansion of the range ensures that Harley Benton always provides new, exciting, and innovative products that keep players perfectly in tune with the musical world, day after day.

A stalwart on stage and in the studio

TB-style basses indubitably belong on stage, and players performing their first gigs with a band can be sure that the Harley Benton TB-70 will be the perfect companion. However, this affordable bass also has a lot to offer musicians making home studio recordings, since its two Roswell GB4 mini-humbuckers eliminate unwanted interference and keep annoying noise from leaking into the recorded tracks. For this and many other reasons, the TB-70 is also a great choice for guitarists who pull four-string duty from time to time and are looking for a straightforward and budget-friendly Rock bass for occasional studio use.

Great Bass Guitar
Jon Vee 31.10.2020
Let me start by saying I am in the United States and the shipping was fast. Received it in 3 days. Opened the carton and this thing Harley Benton bass is beautiful, nice satin black finish. The volume and tone pots feel solid and tight. The machine heads are good quality and the reversed headstock looks amazing. To my surprise right out of the box this thing played great. Didn't need to adjust anything and played good. Surprisingly it was in tune. The neck feels and plays great. Neck is smooth and fast. Again the satin black finish really catches your eye.
Plugged it in to a amp and to my amazement, this bass has a awesome sound. From a nice solid rock sound to a full out metal sound. The pickups have a really great range of tones. And again the playability is comfortable and smooth. Great job Harley Benton!
Thanks Thomann for your service and a great addition to my bass collection.

A Happy Ending, Eventually.
Steveb803 04.10.2022
First off I want to get this out front, I LOVE this bass. It looks and plays amazingly but I had an issue with the electronic's on the bass right out of box. As soon as I plugged it in and touched the volume pot I knew I had issues. But through the magic talking to customer service and taking it to my local electronic's repairman (Thanks Clay!) I am happy to report this bass is rock and roll thunder machine!!

The issue I had was with the volume knob ( which was a push/pull knob) it was severely bent and the active electronic's were very noisy due to a broken solder joints. I thought this was odd because the bass was in flawless condition cosmetically. Replacing the knob and cleaning up the electronic connections yielded a proper sounding bass with OODLES of tones courtesy of the active electronics. The neck thru the body design gives you the feel of solidness and gives incredible sustain. The bass does have some neck dive but that's the cost of looking cool while playing this bass.

This is my 7th Harley Benton Bass/Guitar and this has been the first issue I have encountered with the brand. Will it deter me from future purchases, Nope. Another home run Harley Benton/Thomann

Looks can be deceiving
SaWtHrOaT 19.02.2024
As mentioned by loads of other people, this bass looks awesome. But unfortunately that is the only redeeming quality it has. The electronics were and are abysmal. The volume pot still had about 50% output when turned all the way down. The pickups were and are very noisy. Initially I thought it was a case of bad grounding, but that wasn't the problem. What the problem is, no one seems to be able to figure out. I took this thing to two different guitar repair shops and neither of them could solve the issues. So far I have spent about 200 Euros on having the thing fixed, which is more than the bass costs. So unless you really don't care about reliability and sound, I would give this one a pass. The only reason I haven't returned it is because I wouldn't want anyone to pick this up as a b-stock.

P
Our First Harley Benton- Excellent Introduction!
PugBass 02.12.2021
We've been meaning to order from Thomann for some time. Finally took the plunge. So glad we did. The order process was smooth and the bass arrived in only 10 days to Australia in perfect condition. Double boxed too.
The bass is amazing!
The matte black finish is perfect, the frets are smooth. It looks killer!
I love the neck profile. Suits my playing down to a T. Sounds great played either fingerstyle or with a pick.
Lower volume pickups than I expected however they are clear as crystal, no buzz or humm. Extremely clean.
All in all, an excellent introduction to the Harley Benton brand.
This is unfortunate for our wallet however, as we will definitely be return customers. Thanks guys.
We are looking forward to our next one already!
